Christmas Traditions Vary from Family to Family

Christmas remains a holiday that is a special time to gather for family and friends. After all, it is the season to be jolly. Because of this there are a variety of Christmas traditions that come with the celebration of the entire Christmas and New Years' holiday season. A traditional Christmas generally involves a large gathering for a large, multi-course dinner as well as the exchanging of gifts. Other Christmas traditions can include travelling around one's neighborhood to view Christmas lights, carolling or a Christmas tree party, where family and friends embark on setting up and decorating the tree together.

For couples with kids, other Christmas celebrations can include the annual reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve as well as a special plate to place Santa's cookies and milk on as well as carrots for his eight tiny reindeer. Don't forget Rudolph! Some family also make Christmas morning special with a big breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, toast and hash browns while the children tear their stockings apart to find their special treats inside. After breakfast, children can bundle up with special Christmas-theme blankets and hot cocoa prior to opening their Christmas gifts. The gift giving tradition hails from the gifts from the Three Wise Men to Mary & Joseph in celebration of the birth of Baby Jesus. During the month of December, parently can also include a nightly Christmas book reading before bedtime. This allows the buildup for the season throughout the month and creates a special ambiance for the family to share all month long.

Many other Christmas traditions include attending Christmas Eve Midnight Mass. This is a spiritual family tradition enjoyed by many families to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Some other family-oriented Christmas traditions may include a Christmas newsletter that is sent to family and friends with their yearly Christmas cards. This allows the family to share special news and is a great keepsake for years to come. Another fun-filled traditional Christmas event can be the viewing of Christmas movies, whether old such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, or new, such as The Four Christmases.

Regardless of the Christmas traditions that your family shares, the Christmas holiday season is one that is enjoyed by all. Despite the hectic stress of buying and wrapping gifts as well as preparing for large meals and other specific traditions you may enjoy, the Christmas season is something looked forward to the whole year long.
