Christmas Treats for Your Child's Lunchbox

The days leading up to the Christmas holiday can be very long ones for children. This is especially true in the last few school days before winter vacation. A fun way to brighten up your child's school day during the holiday season is to slip a little Christmas treat into their lunchbox. Here are some fun and festive ways to give your son or daughter a little holiday joy during their lunch break at school.

Make Secret Christmas Cookies. Your child surely looks forward to the day you bake holiday cookies every year. If you can pull it off; whip up a secret batch and then hide them. Slip a few into your child's lunchbox for a sweet holiday surprise. Your little one will love the yummy dessert and look forward to enjoying more of the goodies after school.

Make a Snowflake Love Note. Use plain white paper to make a snowflake, leaving the center as whole and intact as possible. Use a magic marker or crayon to write your child a little note expressing your love and affection. If your son or daughter is too young to read, simply draw a heart in the center of the snowflake. Children love to know that their parents are thinking of them and missing them during the school day. You will surely get a happy kid off the school bus in the afternoon after receiving this lunchbox surprise.

Make Up an Entire Lunch Using Holiday Colors. Want to ensure your child gets enough fruits and veggies at lunch? Select healthy items that are the traditional colors of Christmas. Red grapes, celery sticks, tomato slices, apple wedges and snap beans are all the fun and festive colors of the holiday. Compile all the items in a plastic lidded container and tape a note on top wishing your child a very merry lunch! Your son or daughter will be so thrilled with the festive color palette of the lunch, it will surely be gobbled up in no time.

Include a Holiday Pencil and Notepad. Visit the local discount department store to stock up on Santa pencils, Reindeer erasers and Christmas ornament notepads. Tuck a set into your child's lunchbox to use for classwork. Your child will love these cute and festive school supplies and the fact that you made the little gift a surprise will definitely make their day a very special one.

Break the No Candy Rule. Most parents have a rule that no candy be included in the lunchbox. This is definitely a good practice, but bending a rule or two over the holidays certainly adds to the fun. Include a candy cane or length of ribbon candy in the lunchbox to be enjoyed after the sandwich and fruit. Your son or daughter will definitely appreciate this break in the routine and regard it as a little more magic of the season.
