Christmas Tree Cut-Out Craft Project

Cool Christmas Decoration with Free Craft Template Included

Jennifer Claerr
This amazing Christmas tree cut-out craft project will allow you to make a complete paper Christmas tree, up to two feet tall, out of a piece of only paper eight inches square. This craft project looks really cool when completed, and will dazzle your friends. This interesting decoration costs almost nothing to make. All you need is the included Christmas tree template, a piece of green construction paper, a printer, a metal edged ruler, an exacto blade and a cardboard box.

Start out by getting a piece of green construction paper. Cut it down so that it will fit in your printer.

Download the free Christmas tree cut-out template included with this article. Click the enlarge button. Click on the image and select "Save Picture As." Open the template in your favorite image processing or viewing program, and print it out on the piece of green paper.

When the printout is complete, place it on a thick surface which you don't mind destroying. A broken down cardboard box is best. Use a metal straight edge and an exacto knife to very carefully cut out the lines in the Christmas tree craft project. Cut precisely to the black dots. Do not over- or under-cut. If you make a mistake, turn the craft project over and repair with scotch tape. Trim the tape so that the project will still accordion outward.

Take a hold of the small tab at the top of the project. Pull down gently on the corners of the Christmas tree craft project so that it opens up into a tree shape. The more you pull down, the more the Christmas tree will hold an elongated shape.

To decorate your paper Christmas tree, create small ornaments out of construction paper, foil, or wrapping paper. Try creating some balls, stars and other Christmas tree ornaments. Also cut out the pictures from wrapping paper and Christmas magazines.

Suspend your Christmas tree from the ceiling with a piece of string.

To create a more reinforced Christmas tree craft project, glue the top piece of construction paper to another piece. You can also create a reversible Christmas tree this way, but you can't make any mistakes. If you do, the tape will show on the reverse side, ruining the appearance of your tree.

Try making your Christmas tree craft project in alternate colors, such as white, blue, red, or purple. Once you get the hang of it, you can make dozens of them, and give them away as gifts to family and friends.

The way images are displayed on the site has changed. To print out the collapsible Christmas tree template, click on page two of the article. Then click on the template image which appears in the upper left hand corner of the page. If it doesn't print properly directly from the web image, save it to your hard drive before printing.
