Christmas Tree Farms Close to New York City

I have very fond memories as a young girl, traipsing through the snow-covered hills of Massachusetts with my family to cut down our Christmas tree. This has been a tradition in my house for as long as I can remember. My father used to say that part of the excitement of getting a Christmas tree was taking the trip with the whole family to the Christmas tree farm to cut it down. My father always had to get the biggest tree he could find; which was usually around 8 ft. tall.

Having lived in Yonkers New York for 9 years, I know for a fact that there are no Christmas tree farms in the city (Manhattan) where you can cut your own tree down. However, you and your family can take a short trip to up-state New York and harvest a Christmas tree at one of the many tree farms that are available. The closest Christmas tree farm to New York City is Battenfeld Tree Farm, which has been a part of New York's Christmas tradition to thousands of families for the last 50 years. Battenfeld is located less than 2 hours north of New York City in the Hudson Valley. Battenfeld Tree Farms features an exceptional selection of 7 different types of Christmas trees that grow on 80 acres. All of the tree's here at Battenfeld are $50.00, regardless of type or size; tax is included in the price. Battenfeld tree farms are open from November 27 through December 25, 2009.

To mark the beginning of your Christmas season, gather up the whole family and take a short trip to Battenfeld Christmas tree farm for the rare occasion of personally picking out and cutting down your Christmas tree. Last year, 35 million families in America brought a real Christmas tree into their house, that they harvested themselves in true Christmas tradition.

Another great Christmas tree farm close to New York City is Cold Spring Tree Farm; this farm is a short trip north of New York City and is located at 43 Cold Spring Rd Hudson, NY. Here at the Cold Spring Tree Farm they offer only three different types of Christmas trees for harvesting and they are, Fraser, Spruce, and Balsam. The trees here are priced by the foot, so if you wanted a 6 ft. tree you would pay $10.00 per foot; which would put the 6 ft. tree at 60.00.

A little farther north of the Hudson Valley, you will find Towner Tree Farms, which is located in Addison, NY and carries several types of trees. This tree farm has Spruce, White Spruce, Douglas Fur, Grand Fur, and Fraser Christmas trees that are ready to be harvested. Now remember that no one is too old or too young to participate in this wonderful tradition, so get the whole family together, take the trip up to you local Christmas tree farm and enjoy the experience.
