The Southern Tree Plantation is located just outside of Blairsville, Georgia which is just a short drive from Blue Ridge. Because they offer so many different things it is in my opinion the best tree farm to visit. You can keep the kids occupied and make a family trip out of getting your own live Christmas tree. They are located at 2531 Owltown Road in Blairsville, Georgia. This is my favorite tree farm because of the number of different things that they offer. They have a 22" inflatable slide, hay rides, train rides, petting farms, marshmallow roast, crafts, maze, pony rides, and of course a wide selection of Christmas trees. More information can be found at www.southerntreeplantation.com.
Located in Gilmer County, about 15 minutes from Blue Ridge is Lowery's Tree Farm offering a wide variety of trees from white pine, spruce, and Leyland Cypress. They are open from the day after thanksgiving until Christmas day. They are located at 499 Old Pleasant Valley Road in Talking Rock, GA. More information can be found at http://www.gardens.com/go/view/16341/.
At 375 Carver Mill Rd in Talking Rock, GA is located Jack's Tree Farm. They offer White Pine, Leyland Cypress, and Fraser Fir. You can choose and Cut your own. You can find more information along with all of the registered tree farms in the north GA area at http://pickyourownchristmastree.org/GAADxmas.php.
Christmas trees are also sold at many different private farms throughout the area. There is one such farm in Mobile just outside of McCaysville, GA located on the side of Mobile Road. The best way to be sure that you have seen all of the different farms is to ask around and see where your neighbors get their trees. While you may want to juts get a tree and skip anything else or you may want to have available activities for the kids the best thing to do is find out what other people think about a farm before going, and when possible get in touch with the farm and check on things before you travel to it.

Post a CommentTake a special Christmas shopping trip for gifts to Blue Ridge Georgia. Do your shopping and dining in nostalgic downtown Blue Ridge, and then stay at the Big Dog cabin rental, 2 miles east of downtown Blue Ridge. Filled with antique stores, art and gift shops, Blue Ridge is a great place to Christmas shop. Carriage rides are also available on special weekends, or rent a pontoon boat from the local marina and enjoy a cruise around Lake Blue Ridge. Lake Blue Ridge has over 100 miles of shoreline and 80 percent of the shoreline is U.S. Forest Service land. Other family rituals could include picking apples in the fall at the many orchards, then baking apple turnovers and apple fritters, yum.
