Christmas on the Grand starts out with a wonderful tree lighting ceremony at the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum on Thursday November 19th at 7:00 pm. Along with the lighting of the beautiful blue spruce, there is a special Children's Tree located in the burial site of President Ford. The towering blue spruce was given to the President and Mrs. Ford to celebrate their 45 wedding anniversary. After the lighting of the tree you can enjoy refreshments and Christmas caroling. While you are there make sure to check out the Ford Museum admission is free that night.

Visit Grand Rapids Eastown area for the Uptown Shop Hop. It will be held on December 2nd from 2 pm - 9 pm. Here you can enjoy holiday carolers, free trolley rides that will take you from store to store and a wonder full tree lighting ceremony at the end of the day. On December 4th you attend the Grand Rapids Art Museum's yearly lighting of their 40 - foot tall Douglas Fir on Wege Plaza. This also marks the opening of the Rosa Parks Circle Ice Skating Ring. The ceremony starts at 5:30. Afterward you can head inside the Grand Rapids Art Museum to warm up and enjoy live entertainment and hot cocoa. This costs $5.00 per person and children under 5 are free. You can view the tree lighting ceremony is free.

Wayland will be having their tree lighting ceremony on December 4th at 7 pm. Before the ceremony you can go to the city park to enjoy live music from the West Michigan Second String and holiday story time with Vicki Koucherkavitch of Henika District Library. After the tree lighting you can enjoy free hot cocoa, cider and donuts. There will be Christmas carolers wandering around and the United Bank's kangaroo mascot will be handing out goodie bags for the children. There will also be a community Christmas light chain sponsored by the Wayland Neighborhood watch group so you might want to bring a flash light to hold. They will be placing a colored balloon on the end of the flashlights so it will give it a Christmas light effect. With everyone together the effect will be the look of a long string of tree lights.
