According to the City Of Houston government website, "The Christmas Tree Recycling Program began in 1991 as a joint effort between the Department of Solid Waste Management and the Parks and Recreation Department...The trees are chipped and converted into mulch products for sale back to the public".
The drop off sites listed on the City Of Houston government website for last year December 2008 are :

• Kirkpatrick Neighborhood Depository - 5565 Kirkpatrick
• Windfern Neighborhood Depository - 6023 Windfern
• Westpark Consumer Recycling Center - 5900 Westpark
• Memorial Park (Ball Fields 4 and 5) - 7300 Memorial Drive
• T.C. Jester Park - 4200 T.C. Jester West
• Kingwood - Bens View Lane and Bens Branch Drive
• Clear Lake - Ellington Field Recycling Dropoff - Hwy. 3 @ Brantley Road
• Living Earth Technology - 5625 Crawford Road (713) 466-7360
• Living Earth Technology - 1503 Industrial Drive (Gessner @ Hwy 90)
• CJM Soils Supermarket - 1700 Highway 90A East

To check if these locations will accept Christmas trees for recycling this year and for days and drop off times dial 311 for more information. Also to find out if your neighborhood is part of the curbside Christmas tree recycling program dial 311 as well. You may not need to drop it off if you have curbside recycling program in your area.
Remember to clean the tree. Before your tree is placed at the curb or dropped off at a recycling center remember to remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel and other decorations from the Christmas tree. Trees that are not clean of this material will not be picked up or accepted.

If these areas are not accessible to you and you do not have curbside recycling consider composting the tree yourself or do a quick search on-line for other ways to recycle your Christmas tree.
