Safety first! Keeping a real or fresh-cut tree alive with water in it's base all the time is essential to keeping it from catching on fire. When the needles dry out from lack of water they tend to be more sensitive to heat and could catch on fire. This reaction is unlikely but possible. Be sure to check the wires that may touch the tree which could cause a spark. Also, keep the tree away from open fireplaces that could throw embers and away from open wall plugs. These are a few of the main causes of Christmas tree fires.
Artificial trees are safer of course but are a little less convenient. You have to dig them out of the garage and reshape them. But if the kids don't mind, they will have a time consuming job that will keep them busy. The trees range from a 2' that fits on your desk, humorous cartoon themed trees, dressed trees, and trees of different colors. If you haven't decided on real or not just take a poll. Do you want worry about getting a fresh tree home, to clean up dry tree needles off the floor, getting it out the door? Fresh trees are definitely beautiful and you can choose one of any size you can fit in your house, but are harder to take care of. Artificial trees take up storage room in your attic and having to dig it out of the garage or drag it down the attic ladder.
The end results is the deciding factor. Pretty, holiday lights that twinkle to music and shine off the windows and give your home a warm and welcoming feeling. Whether real or not one of the two is required for decorating. I have listed a few links that will get you to a store closer to you.
