Christopher Columbus: Hero or Villain

No Name
A hero is someone who does something so influential that they change peoples' lives for the better. Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas and proved that the world was round. This alone makes him one of the most important people in history. Christopher Columbus was a selfless individual and thought about the lives of his men before he thought about himself this made him a hero.

Christopher Columbus had all the traits of a great hero. He was the best explorer of his time and was extremely intelligent. When Christopher Columbus started his voyage he left Spain with three ships. Only one ship made it to America, the other ships turned around and went back to Spain since they lost their faith and trust in Columbus. On Christopher Columbus' ship every sailor made it to America. Columbus' number one priority was keeping his men alive and safe even when they were in America. When Columbus arrived at America his men made camp and prepared for a very long and cold winter. That winter when food was scarce Columbus worked with the Native Americans so he could keep his men from starving. After the long winter Columbus dedicated himself to learning survival methods from the Native Americans. This paid off in the long run because more and more people came to America and they all needed to be fed and to learn how to survive in this new world.

Columbus also set up many small towns and communities for people to reside in and was basically the father of the New World. He did so much for others and made there lives so much better. He asserted himself and was a great leader. Columbus also brought Catholicism to the New World and he converted many of the Native Americans. His son and family stayed in Spain for a very long time before joining Columbus in America. There are letters between them and Columbus which show how his family felt about him and what he was doing. Many of the letters from his son expressed how he wanted to be just like him and how he was a great heroic man.

Spain also took a lot of pride in Christopher and they instantly claimed a lot of the New World that Columbus discovered. The New World was intended to be a place of refuge for people that needed to escape religious persecution but it instantly became a land of opportunity as well. Many people followed Christopher Columbus and came to the New World and many people were very successful because of Columbus' leadership.

Columbus was a great man and helped many people. He was selfless and never doubted himself. He was a born leader and influenced so many people in Spain and in America. Christopher Columbus could be compared to a U.S. President at a time of crisis, when decisions need to be made and leadership exerted. Columbus was that kind of leader. He made decisions based on facts, intelligence and selflessness. His decisions enabled him and his men to reach America and survive. He did make all the right, smart choices and it paid off greatly for him and many other people who left Europe and built the New World. A hero is all about doing for others and not for yourself and that is how Christopher Columbus lived his life.

Adding to my last post, later he left a few of his men to do the work for him there while he enslaved and shipped thousands of slaves back to his country, but as he cam back, the Indians died at a faster rate than he even expected coming back to home with only a few hundred slaves left, the Indians made a good impression on the king and queen, so the king and queen decided to keep on gambling with Christopher leaving him with many people to colonize the new place that was originally the Indians, so he basically stole the land. It is interesting how different stories can be told, and from who's point of view, if you keep on writing and discovering, then you will become a true Historian and realize all the perspective and maybe even become one of the best historians in the world, Only the stubborn historians choose a side, but true historians know every perspective of a time in history

Adding to my last post, Christopher Columbus instantly thought of that as an advantage, to bring back more slaves for the king and queen to use, the Native Americans were not a war going tribe, in fact they were so peaceful that they did not know of any weapons other than spears made out of reeds (Probably for hunting) and one accidently cut himself by taking Christopher's blade by the edge when he showed them his weapon. He instantly set the Indians to work, and started to bark orders for the Indians to find gold, if they didn't give the gold then he would cut their hands off and let them bleed to death slowly (other punishments involved burning, sacrificing etc.) Christopher Columbus was so demanding and put so much stress and work in to the people that the people started to rebel, no sooner had they started had they stopped. they realized that they could not do anything, so then that started the mass suicide using poison to kill themselves, later he left a few people to do the job

I believe that you are wrong, because I understand that he took great measures and he made great influence to the people of America, but I have one thing to tell you, did everyone know what Christopher Columbus truly did? You tell the story of the "blind" American's point of view, but if you tell it from the Native American's point of view, then that is a totally different story, Christopher Columbus was gambled on by the king and queen. Determined was his mind, his intentions set, and his heart full of Adventure, and greed. Christopher Columbus was very intelligent, and very optimistic, so he decided to try a different route to Asia to trade the silk and exotic spices to make profit, but instead he didn't sail to Asia, but instead landed somewhere along the coast of America. When he found that the land was not as he would expect, he found that there were only "Indians". then when he found that out that was the start of the "Mass Murder"

I think he is a villian because of all the stress he put on the indians and the way he rapped and killed them making them slaves.
