Those afflicted with Chronic fatigue syndrome have problems staying awake, yet sleep doesn't help their fatigue. Moreover, a person suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome can actually faint by merely getting to their feet. Their blood pressure drops, causing fainting or severe vertigo.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, chronic fatigue syndrome is a multi system disorder and is very difficult to diagnose. Other disorders must be ruled out such as Lyme disease, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and hepatitis. Unlike chronic fatigue, patients with chronic fatigue syndrome suffer a number of symptoms, but the most common symptoms include:
- fatigue that is not alleviated by sleep
- allover joint pain
- vertigo
- nausea
- sore throat
- all around feeling of unwellness
- muscle pain
- memory lapses
It is very difficult for a patient suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome to get the medical help they need as many physicians accuse them of being hypochondriacs and that it is all in their heads. However, in most cases, it is most certainly not in their heads, They suffer a debilitating multi systems disorder which renders them virtually incapacitated.
Chronic fatigue is brought on by an existing physical or mental illness. But chronic fatigue syndrome seems to have no particular cause that can be explained. The victim oftentimes becomes depressed; which is perfectly understandable when you have a condition that denies you the ability to perform even the most menial tasks.
The immune system becomes so sluggish that it can take weeks to get over something as simple as the common cold. The digestive system stops functioning properly, causing all kinds of digestive problems.
Once chronic fatigue has been diagnosed, medication is prescribed and therapy is typically suggested for the fatigue; which commonly entails a balance of rest and exercise.
However, treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome is very complicated as there are so many systems affected by the condition and there is no main cause to eliminate. Typically, the symptoms are treated and patients are given therapy, teaching them not to get up too fast and what to do in the event of vertigo.
The actual cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is yet unknown, but researchers have noticed that in many cases, the symptoms began after the patient had recovered from a virus or flu.
Furthermore, ongoing studies are showing that over half of those diagnosed seem to recover within a few years. Some patients have been known to make a full recovery while others gradually get better; yet some seem to show no improvement whatsoever. The reasons for this are still unknown.
Living with chronic fatigue is extremely difficult, but it does seem to be a curable condition. Chronic fatigue syndrome on the other hand, has no definable cause as yet and affects nearly every part of the body. According to most patients, one of the worse things they have to deal with is the fact that many doctors simply shake their heads and blatantly tell them there is nothing wrong and that it is all in their heads.
If you are suffering from fatigue that isn't getting any better, there are many chronic fatigue treatment options available to you and for the sake of your overall well being, you should consult with a physician and get the medical attention you need.
Those who are experiencing multiple system disorders along with extreme fatigue that doesn't go away with sleep, and your doctor says there is nothing wrong with you; seek a physician that specializes in chronic fatigue syndrome treatment.
However, seek The Great Physician (Jesus Christ) first, which is wise in any situation.
"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb.4:15)
There are support groups who can steer you in the right direction, and they can also relate to what you are going through as most of them are experiencing the same thing. There are several online sites which address the issues associated with chronic fatigue syndrome.
"Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." (Matt. 1:20)
You are not alone.
