Chupacabra Found, Shot in Texas, Teen Says

Sylvia Cochran

Still wondering if there is a chupacabra? Texas once again claims to have chupacabra pictures and a 13-year-old who shot what he believes to be the infamous goat-sucker. Should crypto-zoologists buy it? Do you?

Hairless and gray

"It was gray, no hair at all. I thought that's a chupacabra," UPI quotes the teen from La Salle. The pictures that accompany this tall tale are somewhat reminiscent of a coyote with a bad case of mange. Although skeptical of the youngster's claims, samples of the dead animal's skin and hair were sent for testing.

What is it with Texas and Chupas?

The average American only knows el chupacabra from listening to vintage Art Bell shows. For Texas residents, the call "chupacabra found!" is becoming par for the course. Go back to August 2008, when Quero, Texas, was at the heart of the latest sightings. As reported then, it was a lawman who took official footage of what looked like a large hairless dog's -- or coyote's -- derriere.

A year earlier, also in Quero, a lifelong hunter located a piece of road kill that didn't look like anything she knew. The Texan placed the animal into the freezer and told the AP -- as quoted by Fox News -- that she had "seen a lot of nasty stuff. I've never seen anything like this." Another reason why she was certain that these were no ordinary animals? The 26 chickens she claims to have lost to these creatures were not eaten, as may be expected from a coyote, but rather had the blood sucked out of them.

Will the Chupacabra Pictures go the Way of the Dead Bigfoot?

Remember the three hunters who claimed to have found and bagged Bigfoot somewhere in rural Georgia? The claims date back to 2008, when the dynamic trio made crypto-zoological history by asserting they had the beast's corpse stuffed in a freezer. It only took a few days after this claim for the entire dead Bigfoot story to get debunked. National Geographic reported that the alleged corpse was little more than an ape costume.

Even so, there are still plenty of Bigfoot faithful on the hunt for the creature. Should the latest chupacabra found in Texas turn out to be little more than a sick coyote, the odds are good that would-be crypto-zoologists will take it all in a stride and continue to aim their binoculars and cameras at anything that looks remotely like a model chupa.
