I wouldn't be described as the church going type. I'm pagan first of all, and I'm black, and I'm bisexual. You don't find too many of me in your local church. I don't like wearing suits and I don't like politics. I grew up in very conservative evangelical baptist churches. When I had a chance to get out I did. I just abandoned everything, but a new movement in churchery (is that a word?) might be having me back in.
The days of no dancing, no card games, and no fun at all are quite over. At this church they wear regular clothes, an organ with rock band leads the worship (I even saw a banjo!) and I was behind the times by bringing a Bible. At this church they merely project the scripture on a screen.
I give this new church movement five stars for actually connecting with people. They are welcoming, friendly, and while I'm sure there are politics (its humanity for godsakes) they function, they reach out, the connect with people's needs today and they have changed and morphed into something that is useful. Religion should always be relevant to the times. They are doing a great job.
