Churches of Christ

Mrs.Rogers
I grew up in the Evangelical religious methods, and thoughts. My mom believed it was essential to raise your children in church. She also thought it was very important to instill a sense of God. I went to a religious school, as well. It was a Baptist school. Talk about confusing. At home and school, two different things and doctrines were being taught.

As I have aged I have formed my own thinking of religion, and what exactly God has intended for each and every one of us.

The Bible, inspired by religious men of God, and given God's purpose and thoughts to write down into a book, that we all can relate with, understand, and follow , straight into a place at Heaven.

This Bible is simply God's word. It tells truth. It follows lives of other past, and has lessons for us in our lives today.

In my church, Church Of Christ, we do not have musical instruments, of any kind. Now being that I am an avid performer of singing music , I found this to be the most complex of all rules. I did not think it through, but fought our leader a bit on the right to sing out in church, individually, and with music aides. He informed me, no he showed me, scripture supporting his belief, and the other members of the Church of Christ.

Now when I say members, I mean members of God's church, not man made church. WE believe, that church is not a building, it is the body of believers. We believe that we are to follow the rules of the Bible as stated in the Bible. We also believe that to take away or add to the Bible would be in direct disobedience of God.

Many of people I have heard talk about Church of Christ members as belonging to a occult. Not in my church. We do not have a preacher, we have a leader, one who directs studies to and about Bible passages, and God's teachings. He is like us, equal. He is human, and subject to the same rules as anyone else. He is not the ultimate say so, and he is not to be worshiped.

Our members let anyone who loves God and follows him, lead in church functions, such as directing singing and so forth. No one person is directly above another.

We also believe that God does not want us to discriminate against any person, regardless of sex, creed, color, marriage situation, or preferences.

We are to love everyone, partake of communion every first day of the week(Sunday) when we meet. Why? Because God says in the Bible, that whenever one or more are brought together in his name, we are to give or break bread one amongst another, giving thanks to God. This was hard to understand as well. I even did not partake of it at first. I was afraid, that I would be condemned to Hell, or would be committing a sin, if I did eat of the communion, having had sin in my life. Growing up, you were only to take of communion if you were free from sin. Later though, I studied and found out it was not that way. Everyone who believes can eat of communion and drink of it, as well.

My friends have all had their own thoughts about my church and hae questioned if it were of cult origin. But I tell you now, it is just a group of believers, who worship God the way we are to. We serve no man, follow not a man, but read and worship, according to the word of God.

A good bunch of accepting people who's purpose is to love, all, and reach lost individuals. So that one day we all can see God's face. Believing in the text from the Bible and emphasizing the New Testament Covenant, is where we base our faith.

Being a mother of three lovely children. I love to write if it will help others, and if it is read and enjoyed by others. Writing is like therapy for me. When I write my emotions come across and I believe...  View profile

Well, yes God does teach us to love everyone but he also teachings against homosexuality, it is an abonination to God so the Churh of Christ can't accept homosexuals as okay because they are living in sin. You also didn't mention anything about the plan of salvation including baptism which is the KEY to the church of christ.

Thanks for saying so. I have never had any homosexuals in our church, but I am sure God loves them all. Have a great day.

Here in Central and SW Virginia, if you're not Baptist or Methodist, you may as well not even go to church. As mentioned, my husband and I are thinking of joining a Disciples of Christ church. It's considered culty because they accept homosexuals as valid human beings (what a concept!) Call me liberal, but I like the idea of everyone being accepted into a church. Sounds like you're going to a good one!
