As soon as you walk up to Churchill's you get a feeling of a local neighborhood establishment with lively music and wonderful aromas of what's to come on your plate. Churchill's has a look of your traditional pub, but there was a pleasant unexpected surprise at a closer glance. We were escorted upstairs to find a lovely roof dining area that was not only tucked away, but very elegant as well.
Once we had a chance to really take in the scenery, I turned my attention to the menu. The appetizers included such favorites as tuna tar tar (diced sashimi grade tuna, tossed with lemon juice, cilantro, tomato & sriracha and served with fried wonton chips), baked brie (creamy brie baked in puff pastry. Served with buttery honey pecan sauce and seasonal fruit) and Carpaccio (thinly sliced beef served with pickled red onions, watercress, caper berries and shaved Asiago cheese). Guys that was just the starters!
Once I really got into the menu, I spied the Lobster Ravioli, Blackened Mahi-Mahi and Spinach & ricotta Ravioli. I went for the Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli which is fresh homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach, ricotta cheese, parmigiano reggiano, slightly spiced with nutmeg and served with sun-dried tomato sage butter sauce. Simply divine!
As you know by now, you won't find a Karen Francis review without a little something sweet. Churchill's homemade desserts include: Apple pie served with cinnamon sugar and served hot with English custard or ice cream, Panna Cotta which is a light flan of cream & milk with a custard consistency topped with a caramelized sugar. The list goes on and for those who just want something a little more simple for dessert Churchill's has three scoops of homemade Vanilla Ice Cream with your choice of chocolate or Caramel Sauce.
The bottom line: Reasonable prices, fantastic location and wonderful choice of menu items for lunch as well as dinner. Visit Churchill's on line today at www.thebritishpub.com, 13 W Bay Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401 or call them on 912-232-8501 to plan your next dinner or anniversary party. Churchill's is where Britain comes to the South!
