Now so I am not misleading anyone, I imagine not everyone that showed up over the weekend supports the efforts to try and curtail Global Warming issues; however, I do believe a great majority of people have had several conversations regarding the situation. I didn't happen to see any picketing going on to try and stop them so either most people didn't know or didn't care. Which is why I say to all the hypocrites out there, "Don't fireworks enhance Global Warming?" If your not sure take a look at the following information. Environmental writer Larry West provides usual information about the affects fireworks can have on pollution on the About.com website.
Don't think this isn't harmful to you either, fireworks still use gun powder to ignite off into the sky and also contain chemicals such as barium, which is not only poisonous but also radioactive. Ever heard of dioxin? If you haven't, it's not a big deal; it's only been linked to cancer. There are so many more. I'll just link you to Mr. West's article where you can take a look at your leisure. It's funny how we can have a Clean Air Act and contaminate it immensely yet nothing happens. Sounds like its all about the money and sponsorships to me.
Don't forget about our water supplies that are littered from debris and contaminated. Then of course the heavy metals and other chemicals can help to produce acid rain in some instances. Interestingly enough Walt Disney uses compressed air that is environmentally safe when they display their fireworks on a daily basis. Hopefully this technology will find its way into the rest of the country and eventually the world.
Just think, WEBN fired off 5,200 firework shells in one showing to around 500,000 people in Cincinnati, Ohio. Now think of all the other events around the country alone and backyard barbeques. How much do you think that helped with the Global Warming situation? To make matters worse in the eyes of supporters to this ongoing problem Cincinnati, Ohio, had its hottest month ever in August running a record 25 days where the temperature was 90 degrees or hotter according to the local news. Which of course everyone was saying how it had to do with Global Warming.
On the brighter side though the record that it beat was 24 days where the temperature was that unbearable. A record that had held up for 106 years. If you don't want to do the math thats 1901 and my only question is, "Were they worried about Global Warming back then?"
By the way, the WEBN fireworks were awesome this year.
