Cinco De Mayo Celebrations on the Eastern Shore of Maryland Delmarva Peninsula

Cinco de Mayo is literally translated into the "Fifth of May" in English and is a festival of Mexican pride and heritage. It is celebrated mainly as an educational experience to teach about Mexican culture, traditions, and crafts. Although many find this a good day for a Corona or Margarita and will celebrate at a local Mexican restaurant there are a few places on the Eastern Shore of Maryland Delmarva Peninsula that are incorporating the traditional aspects of Cinco De Mayo into their festivities.

The Delmarva Shorebirds have announced a Cinco De Mayo Celebration along with their Worcester County Night on Wednesday, May 5th. Season Tickets, Mini Plans and Group Outings for the 2010 season can be purchased on the team website (www.theshorebirds.com), in person at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, or by phone at (410) 219-3112.

Salisbury University will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a "Cinco on the Second" dinner in the Commons Bistro dining room Wednesday, May 2, from 5-7 p.m.

Featured menu items include strawberry mock-a-ritas, shredded braised beef (ropa vieja), margarita wings, empanadas, Mexican potato skins, rice and black beans, grilled corn on the cob with lime butter, green beans with garlic and tomato, Tex-Mex squash casserole, Mexican corn cakes, tortilla chips and salsa, dulce de leche cheesecake, chocolate bread pudding with whiskey sauce, and pecan pie.

Cost is $9.30 for adults, $5.72 for children ages 6-12. Children under 5 dine free. Reservations are not required. University Dining Services and the Office of Cultural Affairs sponsor the dinner. For more information call 410-219-2872 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
