Cinco de Mayo is a commemoration of the defeat of the French army by Mexican forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Due to Houston's large Hispanic community and its close proximity to the Mexican border, Cinco de Mayo is a big deal in the city. Trader's Village flea market will be hosting its fourth annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration in the afternoon on May 5, 2009. The event will feature live performances by musicians and dancers in addition to food and children's activities. Admission is free, but parking for the event is $3.00.

Kids can learn about the history of the Cinco de Mayo holiday by participating in various activities such as arts and crafts and musical performances. Admission to the event is free, but prices for the museum are $4 for kids and $5 for adults. Thursday nights, admission to the museum is free for everyone from 5pm-8pm. Admission price includes all the regular museum attractions.
