Mini Decorative Sombrero:
Here's a fun craft to get kids in the Mexican frame of mind. When people think of Mexico, they generally think of Sombreros, and now they can make one, too!
You'll need a paper plate and paper cup, two red ribbons, two black ribbons, red and yellow paint, and a variety of colored pom-poms. You'll also need a paintbrush for the paint and some form of glue (I recommend a hot glue gun).
Paint the cup and plate with yellow and paint the outer edge of the plate with red. Glue the cup to the center of the plate. Glue the ribbons around the bottom of the cup (the one that is glued onto the plate) so that it forms a striped pattern of red and then black. Then glue the pom-poms around the border of the plate, alternating colors as you go.

Mexican Bean Bracelets:
These are sporty little bracelets that your child can wear around and show off to friends!
What you'll need for this is an empty toilet paper roll, construction paper, dried beans and/or lentils, scissors, and glue. To add a more personal touch, use a hole punch and ribbon or sequins, beats, paint, and stickers.
Glue construction paper around the toilet paper roll and then cut the roll so that it isn't round, but is a semi-circle that would fit nicely around the child's wrist. Then glue beans onto the bracelet and let it dry. If you want to get creative, you can paint the beans or paint designs on the construction paper. If the bracelet is a little large, just punch holes in either end of it and threat a ribbon through it to tie it a little tighter.

Counting Down the Days Chain:
A fun way to get kids excited about Cinco de Mayo is to make a 'counting down the days' chain. All you need is construction paper, scissors, and tape/glue. Cut the construction paper into slips (one for every day left until Cinco de Mayo) and then link them together and glue/tape the ends to form a nice long chain. Then, let your child take one link off the chain every day to count down to Cinco de Mayo until it's the day!
