This year, Cindy McCain sent in a recipe for oatmeal butterscotch cookies, while Michelle Obama opted for a very original and different kind of cookie from an old family recipe: shortbread cookies with a kick that contain lemon, orange, and Amaretto. So far Cindy McCain's oatmeal cookie recipe has been winning the hearts of Family Circle readers, but she could be facing a bit of a cookie controversy.
Apparently McCain, who probably doesn't do too much cooking, used a recipe that was an almost exact replica of one posted on Hershey's website. Well, McCain herself didn't pick out the recipe; an intern chose it for her.
This is a sad situation for all of the Republican women out there who are having to attempt to look up to Cindy McCain and try to respect her by default (she's too pretty for many Republican women to like very much). They want a First Lady that's like them: one that enjoys cooking and reading Family Circle and who would actually take pride in sending in a family recipe and having it published. If Cindy McCain wants to become more to the Republican women out there than just a "trophy wife", she better start acting a little more like Laura Bush and go read to some children and pretend that she likes them in front of a camera or something. If you're the possible Republican First Lady and you're unlikable to even Republican women, your husband is probably not going to be too happy with who he chose to marry.
Since this competition has predicted the past four Presidential elections, it will be interesting to see what happens this time around. Perhaps we'll go through another Florida situation and McCain will use some dirty tactics to get elected. It's a pretty scary thought that this situation could be a bit of an omen for future events, but nothing surprises me when it comes to politics anymore.
The fact that Cindy McCain "borrowed" this recipe from a big corporation goes hand-in-hand with her husband's views. He's "borrowing" George Bush's ideas and policies and he's probably "borrowed" plenty of money from big corporations. It's very sad that we see all the support Michelle Obama is giving her husband and how well spoken and intelligent of a woman she is, but we rarely hear anything Cindy McCain has to say. But that's okay, because stooping so low as to have an intern steal a silly cookie recipe speaks volumes.
