Sheehan gained media attention back in 2005 when she set up camp outside of President Bush's Crawford Texas ranch for 26 days. The grieving mother lost her 24 year old son Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, in Baghdad during an ambush.
She tells the Associated Press: "I've been wondering why I'm killing myself and wondering why the Democrats caved in to George Bush. I'm going home for awhile to try and be normal."
Many often referred to Sheehan as a liberal pawn, used for anti-Bush propaganda. Some argue that her anti war protest go against the troops and their families. She gained harsh criticism over her meeting with Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez.
In her online diary on the Daily Kos Cindy Sheehan writes, "I have endured a lot of smear and hatred since Casey was killed and especially since I became the so-called "Face" of the American anti-war movement."
With money she received from her late son's insurance, Sheehan purchased property near downtown Crawford, Texas. It was to be used as a permanent site for protest. As part of her anti-war protest retirement, she has put the property up for sale.

Post a CommentI guess she's finally listening to the pleas of her family to come home and stop rubbing elbows with all the lefty Hollyweird celebs who delight in using this grieving mother to further their own agendas.
Good for you, Cindy. Time to let it go, mourn the loss of your son in privacy, and get on with your life.
She made an impression on the anti-war movement BECAUSE she lost her boy to the war. Cindy's boy now has a resting place in our hearts, and would not have had that without her "waste" of an effort. He thanks her, and can only show his appreciation when she's at-rest, deeply meditative.
Change begins when people have the courage to speak out. I wish her much peace.
Unfortunately, there isn't much the Democrats can do without true control of congress, meaning 3/4 level support to end the war. Reducing funding could endanger the troops that are there and will not cause Bush to reduce his attack. The other thing is that we need a President with the foreign policy respect and ability to bring in the world community to help end things. Gore or Wes Clark might be able to do this, and perhaps Mitt Romney, but the others I am not quite sure about.
Bush is a terrible man. I admire Cindy Sheehans.
What did Hugo Chavez do to his people?
It's about time she called it quits, and I wish her luck going home and trying to be normal. I feel for her grief in losing her son--no one should try to take that away from her. It's interesting how people are harder on Bush than on someone like Chavez--he would never do to the American people what Chavez does to his. Maybe Cindy can move to Venezuala and enjoy the fine television programming there, and along with her, all the people who think Bush is so evil.
Anonymous below makes a good point!
The Democratic Party is pathetic; not only do they give Bush even more war funding than he wanted them to, but passed billions in business tax cuts in exchange for a minimum wage increase they surely plan to use as campaign propaganda in the future. Democrats and Republicans are simply two branches of the same ideology of imperialism, unregulated capitalism, and world domination.
I understand her grief, but she went way over the top. She could have stopped with just losing a son. Instead, she lost everything else of value in her life (e.g. her other family members) and ultimately didn't accomplish anything. I'm afraid she'll die a depressed, bitter woman. What a waste.
Good article, by the way!
