Cinema Complex Proposed as Part of Bournemouth Pavilion Area Renovation
Bournemouth Pavilion and Westover Road Regeneration Plans Get Green Light
Bournemouth Pavilion is an Art Deco building that overlooks the Pier Approach Gardens and Bournemouth Pier, and houses a Theatre, Ballroom, Restaurants and a number of bars. Westover Road used to be the fashionable part of Bournemouth, with up market shops, restaurants and cinemas, but the area is long overdue for refurbishment.
The Pavilion and surrounding area have always, even back in the 1970's, suffered from a lack of parking facilities. With this area being only ¼ mile from the beach and Bournemouth Pier, parking in the summer especially is difficult for anyone wanting to go to the beach, or to go to a show in the evening.
The renovation plans for The Pavilion include an underground car park for up to 350 cars, and redesigning The Pavilion main building to include a rooftop garden, better access to Bath Road, an amphitheatre and terraces overlooking the Pier Approach Gardens.
The creation of a nine screen cinema, more restaurants, shops and locations for outdoor entertainment, will add to the entertainment options for visitors to the town.
The detailed plans for the revitalised Bournemouth Town Centre include consolidating the parking facilities around the central area, to provide more parking in fewer locations, as well as improving routes in and out of the Town Centre for motor vehicles and pedestrians.
Routes for pedestrians to and from the railway station will also be improved, with many visitors to Bournemouth, whether for the beaches or for evening entertainment, journeying by train.
Bournemouth has indeed come a long way since it's foundation as a Victorian Spa Resort 80 years ago, and it will be interesting to see what effect these regeneration plans have on the town and it's importance to the tourist industry in England.
Bournemouth is a seaside town on the south coast of England, with miles of golden sands and many other attractions for the visitor at all times of the year. Great article Tony, there are some articles I could not respond to, due to the face no post comment box.
Good write up, Tony!
I guess a cinema complex is progress, but I hate them. I so miss big, ornate theaters.
An outstanding report as always. Thanks!
I'd definitely go, were I in the area.
great info
@Tal You just raised a question for me, how does a blind person visit a friend in hospital? Surely they can't take their dog in with them?
Wanted to leave a comment on your hospital article, because my dogs have a suggestion--we should all be allowed to bring our pets in with us. Hee hee.... just kidding.
