Cinnamon Soap Can Make Your Skin Softer!

Discovering Handmade Soap in Memphis, Tennessee

Lucky M Diaz
I recently had the pleasure of attending the Craw-fish Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, at the Madison Square in 2008. There were lots of craw-fish being eaten, beer being drank, music, dancing, and plenty of friendly vendors selling novelty items. Call it coincidence or call it fate, but I managed to pass by a tent that was selling one of the best undiscovered secrets for softer skin: Cinnamon Soap. The tent had a wide selection of all natural, handmade soaps, but the one that really pulled in my attention by means of my olfactory nerves (nose) was "Warm Cinnamon." I asked the smiling man and woman at the tent how much the soap cost, and at a very affordable $3, I managed to buy a few of these wonderfully scented bars of soap. With each bar, they gave me a small piece of paper that included the list of ingredients of each bar, the name of the company that made them: Buckeye Hollow, as well as their web address.

The bar of soap, Warm Cinnamon, contains cinnamon leaf oil, ground cinnamon, as well as a few other natural ingredients. It is reddish brown in color with black flecks of cinnamon. The first time I used it in the shower I noticed that the wonderful cinnamon smell was intensified by the hot water. It smelled so good that I could have eaten it! I also noticed that the cinnamon flecks were gritty and rough like sand, so I made sure to not use it on any very sensitive areas of my body. This bar lived up to its name of Warm Cinnamon because it definitely left a warming sensation on my skin. To my surprise, this bar had another affect on my skin . . . after getting out of the shower and drying off, I noticed that my skin felt smoother. I felt so soft and revived after my shower; I just had to look at the small piece of paper that came with the bar of soap again to make sure that there was an ordering address. I immediately decided to share the other bars I had bought with a couple of friends to see if they felt the same.

With in a couple of days my friends were all ranting and raving about how soft the bar of soap had made their skin. My friends' reactions inspired me to go to the website that was listed on the card, and make an order for more bars. The website was very easy to navigate and the order form was simple. After making the order, I called the phone number to confirm that the order had been received. I left a message and Ms. Jacque Fowler called me back. She let me know that my order had been received and that I would have it at my address with in 2-3 business days. Jacque was very polite, friendly and made my shopping experience an enjoyable one. When I received my order, I was ecstatic. I opened it immediately and divided out the bars of soap for my friends and family as gifts. My friends and family used the bars and they came to a unanimous decision that the all natural Warm Cinnamon soap makes skin softer after the very first use. I use this bar once, sometimes twice a week, and my skin has never felt this soft before. I am so glad that I was lucky enough to have walked past that tent at the Craw-fish Festival and discovered a secret to softer skin!

Aromatherapy and soap making is a little more involved than some makers realize. Cinnamon is well known to be a risky soap ingredient. Multiple soap making sources, online and texts, advise against using it at all, especially for pregnant women. I have some of these kinds of soaps from before I realized the dangers. They look great in a display soap dish and release a wonderful aroma, so we can still enjoy them.

Thanks for your warning Blue, but I have extremely sensitive skin and have not had any irritation. However, I do not use the soap in certain areas of my body because it does have flecks of cinnamon that feel like sand. . .which is why it makes the skin feel so smooth after bathing.

Cinnamon can also cause very painful skin irritation, which is why many bath/body products do not use real cinnamon or cinnamon oils. Those with sensitive skin should steer clear, and those who give it a try should avoid using it on their faces or sensitive areas, and stop IMMEDIATELY if that 'warming' sensation is a little too warm or tingly.
