Circus Themed Wedding Ideas

With the rise in popularity of wedding themes, a ceremony can be planned based on practically every holiday, event, movie, or interest. For couples looking for a unique way to celebrate their wedding vows, a circus or carnival inspired wedding theme can be colorful, fun, and memorable for all who attend.

Circus Wedding Theme Invitations
Get your guests ready for what's in store with invitations and/or save the date cards similar to circus posters. You'll probably want to choose bold colors with stripes, like these Two Ring Circus Invitations from Royal Steamline. Some print shops offer invitations in the style of a ticket, or you may want to go with invitations that feature images of an elephant, a Ferris wheel, or even sideshow attractions.

Circus Wedding Theme Decorations
When choosing a venue, the holy grain for a circus wedding would be under a big top. Whether you're able to rent a striped tent or go with a different venue, such as a barn or another rented space, give the room a circus feel by hanging alternating colored fabric from the ceiling, such as red and white or yellow and white. Use clusters of balloons to mark the ends of aisles and hang larger round balloons from various areas of the ceiling. String strands of small lights and long pieces of red fabric from a central point in the ceiling downward at an angle for an authentic big-top vibe.

Circus Wedding Bridal Gowns and Bridesmaids Dresses
A bride getting married with a circus themed ceremony can wear a white gown, but instead of a traditional dress you may choose a shorter length to show off heels in a bright color such as turquoise, red, or yellow, or maybe even a striped stiletto. A bride in a circus wedding could easily wear a colored wedding dress, such as this yellow wedding gown from Wedding Dress Fantasy, which has a carnival-yet-elegant style. Whether you wear a white wedding gown, a red wedding gown, or another color dress, wear a birdcage veil, miniature top hat, or fedora instead of a traditional veil. If the bride is wearing a white gown, bridesmaids could wear gowns in bright yellow but with different styles, or have the bridesmaids wear the same style of dress, but if there is an even number of ladies, alternate red and yellow gowns. If the bride is wearing a bold color, the bridesmaids can still wear colorful dresses, but nothing too intricately styled that will distract attention from the bride.
