Kingston is the capital of Jamaica and has over 700,000 residents. The city does not offer a type of resort paradise that can be found in other parts of the country, but is ideal for the traveler who is interested in other activities besides working on their tan. One of the most important art collections in the country is at the National Gallery. It contains works by the most talented Jamaican artists. If you want to bring back a few souvenirs, the Jubilee Market in the heart of Kingston is a perfect place. Everything you can think of is for sale, including exotic fruits and Bob Marley mementos.
If you want to relax by the beach, Montego Bay offers that and more. The city started becoming a tourist spot in the 1920s and is now one of the most ideal vacation destinations. The city offers luxury resorts and beautiful beaches. Other attractions include the Harbour Street Market, and the well-known Rose Hall that claims to have a resident ghost.
The Southern Coast of the island offers different types of tourist adventures. This region of the country is untouched and in all it's beauty. The Y.S. Falls has water that tumbles 120 feet, while the Gourie Caves can be explored for over 12 underground miles. The region also has many restaurants to choose from, and do not forget the rum! At the Appleton Estate you can blend your own rum. This region of the country is one of its best kept secrets and worth visiting.
Jamaica has many attractions to see. You will be able to make the best out of your vacation. Planning ahead and knowing what each city has to offer will make your time in the country both fun and memorable. Forward thinking and an understanding of the culture and destinations will insure that you have the time of your life.
