Citizens Want Photo, Video Proof of Bin Laden Killing

COMMENTARY: It's not enough for President Barak Obama to announce United States military succeeded in killing Osama bin Laden. Now tech savvy citizens want video and photo proof.

The White House is currently in possession of both video footage and still photos of the bin Laden killing, according to an Associated Press news report published by The Garden City Telegram on May 3.

After Hoax, Citizens Want Proof

Earlier this week hoax photos of a dead bin Laden circulated on the internet as purported proof of the death. Now that the fake images have been pulled by major media outlets, people want to see the real thing.

Since bin Laden was reportedly buried at sea, the only proof available for the inquiring public relies on modern technologies. Thankfully, the terrorist's body can't be paraded trough the streets or desecrated publicly to prove his death.

The Implications of Releasing Graphic Images

John Brennan, White House counterterrorism adviser, says the release of photos and video documenting the bin Laden killing and burial must be "done thoughtfully."

Although the media censors graphic images daily, is the general public ready to see a corpse close-up? How will adults explain the images to children who view the graphic material on the internet or the evening news?
