City of Wonder: A Facebook Game

City of Wonder is the newest game by Playdom to grace the Facebook website. This is a game where on builds a city, raises the population and gains a bit of history along the way. City of Wonder was released on August 20, 2010 by the same game developer who brought us Mobsters.

This game has elements of a game called Civilization, but it also has elements of other games on Facebook, which makes it perfect for the social network. One could even compare it to Sim City, before you could control he individual characters. It's more than building a city or empire, it's a history lesson all rolled into one neat little package that all ages can enjoy.

It's fun and addictive to see how fast you can proceed through the different levels but I suggest taking your time as the little characters within the game, move, and are animated. They threw a parade in my honor when I completed a task and walked the streets as one would in a parade.

In the game players need to enlist friends to play the game and become their allies, which will aid them in the game. Allies are not needed for the first few levels, but as a player climbs the levels, the allies are needed. Allies are also needed to expand the size of your city, you can purchase the first upgrade as I did, but it takes over half the gold bars one if given at the beginning of play. Enlist the help of your friends so the help is there when needed.

Allies will help you when you visit other cities for a cultural exchange, exchange of goods or fights. The fighting is all text so there is go implied blood and gore. The graphics with civilizations during peacetime is animated, neat to look at and eye appealing.

The people in the city will sweep their homes, tend their crops, storytellers will sit and entertain the villagers. Be sure to add enough decorative touches such as trees, and burial mounds to keep the inhabitants of City of Wonder happy or they will exit your city in great numbers.
