A player can purchase a straw hut for 2000 coins and every four minutes 5, more citizens arrive to increase the population. A floral hut, which can be bought for 2,000, will send 10 more citizens every eight minutes. These work out the same resident and price wise so pick what you wish but the game does say watch out for the wind when purchasing the straw huts.
One can purchase the Primitive Hut for 4,000 cons but 25 citizens will arrive in twenty-four minutes. In those 24 minutes, if you would have purchased the flora hut you'd have 30 citizens and it costs half as much.
An Egyptian House costs 15 gold bars not coins but it will bring in 100 citizens every hour. Personally, I would skip purchasing this house, because it's better to spend the gold bars on expansion so you can add more buildings and decorations if you do not have allies.
I would strongly urge player of City of Wonder to look at the housing options before a purchase is made to avoid wasteful spending of precious coins as they get the hang of the game.
The same goes for the markets a grocer will cost you 8,000 coins and will return 10 coins every four minutes, which is a pain in the butt if you do not play it much. When traded the goods at the grocery will gain the player 32 coins. The Kiln will give you 28 coins every hour but in a trade with another player, it can bring you 36 coins each time. The kiln costs 9,000 coins.
The game does require a player to purchase both, so start with the grocery and when it's affordable, grab the kiln. Playing smart and checking into the cost of the item with the return will help a player succeed in this game.
