City of New York Should Be Taken Over by the Federal Government and Run like Washington D.C. As a Federal District

Yes, with horrific stories that cannot be suppressed any more emanating from various quarters, no way this vital entry point can be trusted anymore.

9/11 proves the ease with which terrorists could move around with the help of their sponsors and friends.

With some local businesses alleged to be running as fronts for smuggling in subversive persons and their paraphernalia, it is imperative that the Congress take over "the City That Never Sleeps" for ensuring non-repetition of events like 9/11.

No mercy or exception should be shown in this case.

Because, as world's foremost financial center, the security of the city of New York (NYC) cannot be run the way it is done now. It needs more surveillance which a city cannot provide or afford.

When the trial of a terror suspect could not be conducted in the city where the crime was committed and its administrators themselves wanted it transferred to another court elsewhere, that shows their inability to protect the city and its residents, even with the improved security.

So it is highly imperative that Congress enact laws to convert NYC as a federal district and administer it directly.

As nerve center of the nation, the running of NYC cannot be left to local politics.

And city cannot be left to the mercy of political uncertainties in the State Capital.

The residents are not going to be affected as more federal jobs will be created with more civic resources to enable a better life.

That way the state also will be benefited indirectly as there is a big contingent of commuters from other parts of the state working in the city. In fact, neighboring states like New Jersey will also be benefited.

Let us not forget whatever happens in New York City affects the rest of the nation.

If the present turmoil continues, New York City will lose its preferred global business center status and the world will look elsewhere for another choice. That need not necessarily be in USA.

The only people who are going to protest the federal take over are terrorists and their local sponsors, criminals, drug peddlers and their friends.

And once the Federal District of New York takes shape, phony businesses endangering national security will go back to where they came from.
