City of New York in Turmoil Because of the Blizzard of 2010

Patience is a Virtue!

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is the victim of much criticism because of the lack of preparation and clean efforts. As we watched Fox 5 News from 5 a.m. on Monday morning after it snowed all day and night on Sunday, December 26th when two feet of snow pounded the northeast.

Pictures of busses, cars, ambulances, tow trucks and even snow plows were stuck and abandoned on city streets. People were stranded in local airports and anyone waiting for a plane to the northeast was also left waiting and wondering if they would ever make it home.

Two days after the blizzard, the news keeps on reporting more and more horror stories: an international plane arrived at JFK Airport and passengers were left on the plane for eleven hours because immigration had not arrived to screen the passengers. In the end; they were granted 20,000 frequent flyer miles for the inconvenience.

One death has been attributed to an ambulance getting stuck and unable to reach a person having heart problems. Busses including the ones with the accordion split which are actually two busses have been stuck blocking nearly a block long, these busses are great at rush hour, but keeping an entire block tied up for hours on end are a true hindrance in a city so busy.

The biggest complaints came from the outlying boroughs, like Staten Island, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens. Complaints have been lodged from emergency vehicles not responding because they could not reach people because the streets were never plowed -- not even once.

The mayor held a press conference asking, well more like telling New Yorkers to be patient. But if you live in this area; you know patience is not something we are accustomed to having!

Excellent article; thanks for sharing - snow is a mess. One sis up in Idaho is without power. Luckily has wood stove and wood to burn on the porch; snow is piled deep. We have a stack about 2 yards from the back porch. This is the first time our entire back porch got covered with snow and ice.

I can't believe that the city is still in such a mess. Watching the news tonight with all of the people complaining and whining. Seems like more of the streets should be cleared by now! Crazy. :)

Great reporting -- I heard the storm was quite nasty. And here, everybody's complaining about a little rain.

Complaining is as native to New York as bagels... Bloomberg should be used to it by now.

So... I finally find out who this strange woman whose notices started appearing in my inbox is!
