CJ's Beefburgers: Quite Possibly Alabama's Best Hamburger

Well, first it was a national chain yogurt place. Then, it was a chicken fingers eatery. Now, it's a hamburger joint. More specifically, CJ's Beefburgers. Their specialty is the ¼ hamburger that they have advertised numerous times in our local city's newsletter. I thought I would give it a try one day while I was looking for somewhere to get a quick bite before picking up my children from school. Although the restaurant is not very "inviting", the food is spectacular! Here, the waitresses and cooks dress in t-shirts and jeans, the menu is printed on a piece of paper full of grease stains, the drive-through only serves on the passenger side and the chairs don't match the table. The menu boasted a special that day on the 1/3 pound hamburger with everything, curly fries and drink for only $4.39. I thought to myself that a 1/3 pound of beef was way too much for me to ingest at once, so, I opted for the kiddie meal, which was a scaled down version of the 1/3 pound CJ's Beefburger. More like a 1/16 pound! I wasn't really prepared to be impressed, because, it was just a hamburger. I figured when you've had one hamburger, you've had them all.

I took a seat at one of the tables and got the newspaper to read until my order was ready. I was the only one in the restaurant, so I made myself comfortable as I read the paper and listened to the background music coming from the radio at the counter. The waitress brought my order out in about 5 minutes, which was quick to have been cooked fresh. The waitress said that it was quicker because my order was a smaller version of their specialty.

When I got my hamburger, the first thing that I noticed was the curly fries which were very thinly sliced and not too greasy. I took a bite of one of them and was quite impressed. Then came time for me to test the (famous) CJ's hamburger. The hamburger was seasoned well and cooked well with juices still intact. The bun was lightly toasted with buttered bread. Piled generously with lettuce, tomato, pepper-jack cheese, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle and onion, I ate the WHOLE thing! At first I thought I wouldn't be able to because of the fries and the drink, but this sandwich was so good, that it wasn't a challenge at all.

Now, there are two famous hamburger places across the street from CJ's that anyone would be inclined to try because of their popularity. However, I'm glad I gave CJ's a try that day. It satisfied my hamburger fix, and, they have a brand new, loyal customer.Well, first it was a national chain yogurt place. Then, it was a chicken fingers eatery. Now, it's a hamburger joint.
