There's a wonderful new business in Marmora, New Jersey...CK Pilates Studio! Owner and operator Connie Kelly had dreamed of being able to open a Pilates studio for some time, and when a former dance studio close to her home came up for rent, Connie just knew it would be the perfect place for her new business, CK Pilates Studio. Located only a short distance south of South Shore Plaza on Route 9, already they're making a difference in people's lives.

Pilates is the mind-body exercise method pioneered by the late German athlete Joseph Pilates. As with most fitness programs, variations and improvements are always made, and in this case, many are choosing to stay fit and healthy with Stott Pilates, a contemporary approach to the original program, and a less-jarring, more mindful alternative, than other programs. Connie is a Stott-trained Pilates instructor, and she teaches all levels of fitness, from beginner to experienced, and says she, "challenges every level."

Connie is also a licensed physical therapy assistant, with a strong background in anatomy and kinisiology (the science and study of muscles and how they work), and she is highly trained in the rehabilitation of the neck and back, as well as the upper and lower extremities.

Stott Pilates is an anatomically-based approach to the original exercise method, and it incorporates modern exercise science and rehabilitation principles. Students learn to emphasize neutral alignment, core stability and improved mobility. These systematic exercises can be performed on a mat, (with the use of bands, rings and balls that help target those specific areas of the body being addressed), or on special equipment, such as "reformers". Reformers provide resistance with the use of springs, and are excellent for strengthening and making more flexible upper and lower extremities and your core.

Connie teaches private and semi-private sessions as well as group classes to both men and women who want to increase their flexibility, develop better "core" strength, or to correct one or more muscular imbalances. Using Stott Pilates, Connie can help you develop strong, flat abdominal muscles, and longer, leaner muscles, which will not only improve your posture, but will also allow more ease and efficiency of movement. You'll be taught breathing techniques that help oxygenate the blood, thus increasing blood flow to the brain which helps relieves tension, helps you focus and revitalizes you!

Many athletes also use Pilates to increase precision in their performance and focus, and they can benefit greatly by learning how to prevent injuries. Too often we over-train our muscles by doing too much forward bending, and not nearly enough stretching and strengthening of our backs. "Positive results have been seen with Pilates exercises incorporated into physical therapy rehab programs. Our back patients do great!"
What Stott-trained Pilates instruction does, is work on helping you rebalance those muscles around your joints, so they will work more effectively, thus lessening your chances for injury. Professional and amateur dancers, golfers, baseball players, skaters and many others have experienced a marked difference in their performance.

When asked how often one should come, Connie explained, "It depends on the person's need, time, availability and ability. Some come two times per week, some three, some only once. I prefer to do three private sessions with each client, because I want everyone to be safe and to get the most out of the experience. For some, however, that's difficult, so everyone is required to do at least one, so I can see if there are any issues or injuries they may have forgotten or not told me about."

And are clients getting results? It must be working, because accolades and praise are already being received. Some comments include: "I feel so much better", "It's not intimidating", and "It's a soothing, tranquil, spa-like atmosphere." And for Connie? "It's heartening," she shared, "when someone learns a new way to roll over or sit up who had trouble doing it before. I'm seeing people regain their health. If you have a strong core, everything is easier. It makes all the difference in the world."

So, if it's time for you to "get on the ball", and do something about the way you look and feel, Stott Pilates with Connie Kelly at CK Pilates Studio, 533 Route 9 South, Marmora, NJ might just be the answer for you.
