This win wasn't a big surprise, as Danes has already won the Emmy and the Golden Globe. Danes gives a performance that moves and inspires as she artfully reveals the woman behind the autism.
Based on the writings of the real Temple Grandin, the film chronicles the life of a woman determined to live life on her own terms, and to not let autism limit her.
Danes was up against two others from "Temple Grandin," Julia Ormand and Catherine O'Hara. Also in the category were Winona Ryder from "When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story" and Susan Sarandon for "You Don't Know Jack."
Although the win for Danes was somewhat expected, I still was very thrilled for her. As our family is touched by autism, the vivid and moving character of Temple Grandin, is expressed to us through Claire Danes.
"In some ways, this was an isolating role to play. I couldn't even look my fellow characters in the eyes," Danes commented.
I don't have HBO at home, so I didn't see "Temple Grandin" right away. At the urging of a friend, I found it available on DVD, and urge everyone interested in a quality film with a compelling story to do the same.
The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Shrine Exhibition Hall and broadcast on both TNT and TBS.
