I won't reveal that here, but I will say that Claire Foy is rather bewitching without all that dirt on her face. When she's cleaned up, she looks a lot like Katy Perry or Zooey Deschanel with her big beautiful eyes, but she doesn't have quite the career as her lookalikes just yet.
So will "Season of the Witch" change that for Claire Foy? If she did become a success, Claire Foy would join a long list of beautiful Hollywood actresses that have played witches.
Of course Emma Watson is the most well-known between actress of today, thanks to her role in the Harry Potter movies, but she's been proceeded by legends like blonde bombshells Kim Novak and Veronica Lake, who both played witches who fell under love's spell in "Bell, Book and Candle" and "I Married a Witch", respectively.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy teamed up to play a more sinister group of witches in "Hocus Pocus", and three of Hollywood's best actresses, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon, and Cher, formed another trio of witches in "The Witches of Eastwick". Michelle Pfeiffer also portrayed a bewitching (but evil) witch in the movie "Stardust", and actress Nicole Kidman shares her distinction of playing a witch twice; she was perfectly cast in "Bewitched", and played a very sexy witch alongside Sandra Bullock in "Practical Magic".
Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney, Rachel True, and Fairuza Balk played a foursome of teen goth witches using their powers to get revenge on the classmates they are tormented by in "The Craft", while Robyn Lively is known as much tamer "Teen Witch".
Other actresses playing witches in movies include kindly and kooky witch Angela Lansbury in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" and evil child-despising witch Anjelica Huston in "The Witches". But one of the best evil witches has to be vampire/witch Barbara Steele from "Black Sunday".
There's something about Claire Foy that reminds me a bit of Barbara Steele. It may be her steely stare or ability to pull off both innocent and evil, but, whatever the case, I hope we get to see a lot more of her bewitching face.
