Clairol Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color: Worth the Steep Price

Carol Wilkins
Is the Perfect 10 really a hair color that is no-drip, has a quick application, smells good, covers gray 100 percent, leaves your hair soft and shiny and only takes 10 minutes? I was skeptical. Could Clairol live up to the hype, or was this just a great marketing scheme? Here are my findings:

Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color is a No Drip Formula

Yes! I have used Clairol no drip formulas in the past and they are (for the most part) pretty god. But I still got drips while the hair color was setting. The Perfect 10 formula is thick and even with short hair and using the whole bottle, I did not get one drip.

Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color has a Quick Application

Yes! The bottles with the single nozzle should be junked. The Perfect 10 has a comb nozzle that spreads color evenly through your hair as you comb through. It takes much less time to cover your hair using the comb applicator. I usually spend about 3 minutes...maybe longer depending on how long my hair is...using a single nozzle bottle. With the comb applicator, I took me just under a minute to cover my hair.

Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color has a Good Smell

No. This is one aspect Clairol did not live up to. On the commercial they mentioned it is a revolutionary hair color with a good odor. When I first mixed the color, it did have a faintly pleasant smell of strawberries. But once applied and while setting, it had a very strong chemical odor. I expect that in hair color and particularly in hair color that sets so quickly. I would say that the chemical smell was slightly stronger than normal Clairol Nice 'n Easy color.

Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color Cover 100% of Gray Hair

So far...yes! I do not have much in the way of grays but what I did have was covered.

Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color Leaves Your Hair Soft & Shiny

Yes! I was a little worried at first when I washed out the color. My hair felt rough. But once I used the conditioner, no more worries. Even after shampooing each day it is still soft. As for the shine factor, Clairol's claim on the box is "high gloss permanent hair color that gives your hair shine and reflective dimension." It is true! I was very surprised at how shiny the color looks. It is very natural looking and they did live up to the reflective dimension. On the box it shows the hair color without the gloss and the Perfect 10's gloss. It definitely lived up to the claim. And after several washings, it is still holding the shine and softness.

Perfect 10 Nice 'n Easy Hair Color Takes Only 10 Minutes

Yes! I was very skeptical of this. I am used to sitting for up to 45 minutes with hair color. How could something work this quickly? I still do not have that answer but it does work. I left mine on for exactly 10 minutes and it came out perfect. In this fast-paced society, I think this will be a major selling point for Clairol.

The price is a little steep for home hair color at $12.99 a box. But because it lives up to all but one of the claims, I found it was worth it. I have short hair so one bottle worked well for me with no leftover formula. Those with long, thick hair may want to purchase two boxes. It seemed there was less formula (probably due to the thickness of the liquid) in the bottle than in normal hair color.

I forgot to mention I went to the Clairol site and let them know my results, about a week ago, and I've been totally ignored.

I tried Perfect 10 and I brushed out big gobs of broken off hair for about a week. What's left is lifeless and cardboardy. Sorry I switched from Nice and Easy 106 which I'd been using once a month for at least 25 years.

I have to say, I loved this haircolor the first time I used it (which was tonight). I have a job interview tomorrow -- I was obviously worried about coloring my hair tonight. Tonight was the FIRST time I have used this product and I am thrilled with the results. Always before, I have had to use two products. I'd use one (the "under" color) which would end up too dark (usually) or too light, so I'd have to choose highlights or low lights to make it look "normal". Dicey at home, at best. (All of this to avoid the $350 every couple of months at the hairdresser to avoid the highlights that turned me a brassy, trampy looking blonde). Time will tell if the color lasts (I sure hope so) bt I will definitely be buying this product in the future, as long as the color stays and doesn't turn green, ultraviolet orange, or some other strange color in 3 weeks.

Thanks. I wanted to try it but because of the steep price decided to stick to my usual, Nice n Easy. I'll keep my eyes open for a coupon and sale now, and give this a try!

does this really color dark roots (having gone from brown to blonde). i'd like to have something to do 'touch ups" inbtwn salon visits... or cutting them out entirely!

    thanks!
