J.C. Wiatt, played by Diane Keaton, is known as the tiger lady. She's the epitome of a fierce corporate career woman. J.C. is on her way to becoming a partner at her prestigious firm. The voice over at the beginning of the film sums up this new generation of women: "As little girls they were told to grow up and marry doctors and lawyers, instead they grew up and became doctors and lawyers...they moved out of the pink ghetto into executive suites... the working woman is a phenomenon of our time...."
As the movie progresses, the corporate diva receives an overseas phone call that changes her life forever. She learns that she has inherited something from a distant relative who has died in a tragic accident. When J.C. arrives at the airport the following morning to claim the item, she is startled to find it's not a thing at all. It's a baby girl named Elizabeth.
At first J.C. is adamant about giving the child up for adoption, but she quickly changes her tune when she begins to bond with Elizabeth. Once she makes the decision to keep her, J.C.'s life begins to unravel. Her unsupportive live in boyfriend leaves, she loses her promotion and is eventually forced out of the company.
J.C. decides to leave New York and make a new life for herself in Vermont. While there she finds a new love, a new career and an adventure of a lifetime.
Diane Keaton portrays J.C. Wiatt brilliantly and the viewer immediately feels a connection to the character. Baby Boom is an uplifting film that will leave you with a smile on your face and a belief that anything is possible.
