Classic '80s Movie Reviews

In the 80s, movies had just begun to explore the wonders of color and sound. Growing up, movies were a real fine thing to view, with a glass of soda and a box of popcorn. Movies could be viewed by the entire family at once, and accompanied the television as a form of display. Here is a review of a few favorite classic 80s movies. Included are hyperlinks at the end of the review to websites where these movies are available for purchase.

1. The Last Starfighter. Originally released in 1984, The Last Starfighter utilized computer-generated visuals and tells the tale of a starship pilot thrust into an intergalactic war. The DVD was released on June 8, 1999. The Last Starfighter is rated PG.

2. Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai. Rated PG, Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai was released in 1984. The DVD was released on January 1, 2002. This film features film noir moll parody.

3. Big Trouble in Little China. This film is directed by John Carpenter, who also directed Escape from New York. Originally released in 1986, the DVD version was released on May 22, 2001. This movie has a lot of stunts and the characters are especially well defined. Big Trouble in Little China is rated PG-13.

4. Tron. Rated PG, and released in 1982, Tron was released in DVD format on January 15, 2002. Created by Disney, Tron is a computer-game fantasy about a computer wizard who is transported into a data stream by a software pirate.

5. Aliens. This movie was originally released in 1986 and is rated R. The DVD release date was January 6, 2004. Aliens was directed and written by James Cameron. This is the second film in a series of 6.

    Yes! Yes! Yes! "Aliens" is #1! I loved that movie then and I still love it now! Excellent choice!
