Attend a Halloween Party in Style as a Famous Classic Hollywood Couple

Carly Hart
For those planning to attend an adult Halloween party this year, going as a classic Hollywood couple will likely mean that you aren't dressed like everyone else. In addition, dressing up as a classic Hollywood couple for Halloween can also be fun since the younger crowd may not even know which Hollywood stars you are! Here are a few Hollywood couples Halloween costume ideas to consider, as well as the names of several e-tailers who carry the costumes. Shop early for best selection.

Classic Hollywood couple Halloween costume idea: Marilyn Monroe and Joltin' Joe DiMaggio

Attending a Halloween party as Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio can be fun for women and men alike. Though they were not married for long, the couple was one of Hollywood's first super couples with seemingly the whole world following their courtship. According to the Official Site of Joe DiMaggio, though divorced for several years, Joe was ultimately the one to claim Marilyn's body for burial when she died in 1962.

Marilyn Monroe costume: Short, blonde wig and a long, glamorous dress. Halloweencostumes.com carries several Marilyn Monroe dresses.

Joe DiMaggio: Joe DiMaggio's jersey can be purchased online at several e-tailers for approximately $100. Add a bat to accent your look as the Yankee Clipper.

Classic Hollywood couple Halloween costume idea: Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton

For a cheaper Hollywood couples costume, consider going to a Halloween party as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, who played Antony and Cleopatra in 1963's Cleopatra. This famous Hollywood couple eventually married and divorced. Twice.

Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra costume: Costumecraze.com has some Cleopatra/Egyptian costumes for less than $50. For extra style add gold beads in braided hair, as seen in the movie.

Richard Burton as Marc Antony: Dress as a Roman soldier. Costumes4less.com has a nice Roman soldier costume complete with some armor for about $55.00.

Classic Hollywood couple Halloween costume idea: Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable

What could be more classic than two characters from Gone With The Wind? Vivien Leigh played Scarlett O'Hara to Clark Gable's Rhett Butler magnificently. What makes this couple a classic is that even 70 years later, this epic movie still pulls at your romantic heart strings. Since 2009 is the 70th anniversary for Gone With The Wind, attending a Halloween party as this famous Hollywood couple is the perfect way to pay homage to one of Hollywood's most beloved epic films.

Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara: A southern belle costume can be purchased on several sites and Maxcostumes.com has a beautiful hoop dress with a sash and hat. Zoogstercostumes.com also carries some lovely southern belle dresses.

Clark Gable as Rhett Butler: Brandsonsale.com (which sells also through Amazon.com) has a southern gentleman costume for about $130. A balcony scene from Gone With The Wind does portray Gable in a white suit with a black tie, similar to Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. It may be easier and cheaper to buy or rent a white suit and use a black string tie to finish off the look.
