I was born in 1975. Saturday Night Live first hit the air in October of that year. I remember when I was young and sneaking out of my bed. I'd sit in the hall way and listen to my father laughing at the show. I couldn't wait till I was old enough to watch it.
As a teen I became a fan of the show. This was in the late 80's & early 90's. I remember loving Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Mike Myers & Victoria Jackson. I also came to love old reruns of the very early shows.
I thought I'd share a great blast from the past for those of you who haven't laughed at some the classic skits from Saturday Night Life (aka SNL). Sit back and enjoy the great comedy acts from the early days of SNL. By earlydays I am talking about the ones from the 70's to the 90's.
Some of my favorite classic clips from SNL can be found on You Tube: (presented in no order)
1. Landshark - Lard Shark came to SNL shortly after Jaws hit the big screen. The skits were usually the same yet very funny. A woman would hear a knock at the door and knowing not to open the door to stranger she would always ask who it was. Yet she would always meet the same sad yet funny fate.

2. Paul Simon In A Turkey Suit- I must admit at my age I recognize his name and not his songs. But when I saw this clip it just goes to show you how simple and funny the skits were in the early days of SNL.
This skit here shows a guest singer -He sings his song as most guest singers do on the show yet he is dressed like a turkey. This makes for some simple and wonderful comedy.

3. Chippendales Audition - I remember watching this live as a teenager and right away I knew Chris Farley was going to be the next John Candy. Little did I know his career would end with his sudden death.
This skit has Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley auditioning for Chippendales. Chris Farley is wonderful and I love how seriously he takes his dancing. Get ready to laugh out loud and then laugh again!

4. The Denise Show - This is another one I remember seeing during my sleepless nights as a teen.
The Denise Show skit stars Adam Sandler as a guy still obsessed with his ex-girlfriend. Very funny!

5. The Hyper Hypo Kid - This skit stars Mike Myers & Nicole Kidman. Mike Myers is a very hyper kid who has to wear a helmet. Nicole Kidman is a sweet little girl. I must say my kids enjoyed watching this one!
One of the things I love about this skit is the simple childlike talk between Mike Myers & Nicole Kidman.

6. The Church Lady - I remember back in the 80's on Nickelodeon they would sometimes show comedians in between shows. Dana Carvey quickly became one of my favorites. I was too young at the time to stay up and watch Saturday Night Live but my father told me about "The Church Lady". So I am proud to say even before I could watch SNL I was fan!
The Church Lady for those who do not know is a character who sticks strong to her believes. She sees just about everything as evil. The skit is set up like the "Tonight Show" where she interviews guests.

7. Frank Sinatra & Stevie Wonder sing Ebony & Ivory -A young Eddie Murphy plays Stevie Wonder & Joe Piscopo is Frank Sinatra. They sing their version of Ebony & Ivory. Very funny!

8. Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood - What if Mr. Rodger's lived in the ghetto? Eddie Murphy shows us in his version of "Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood".

9. Toonces the Driving Cat - I must say I have wondered where in the world the idea for this skit came from. Yet it has stayed one of my favorites over the years!
There is little intro needed for this skit. The skit is about a cat who can drive a car. Good luck trying to keep the theme song out of your head. A catchy silly song.

10. French Class - Starring Alec Baldwin as the French teacher. I loved this because it reminding me of my dreaded Spanish classes. Very funny and a great find on YouTube.

11. Making Copies - Another wonderful now classic SNL skit. Rob Schneider stars as The Richmeister. A man whose desk is right next the copy machine. This clip also stars a young Macaulay Culkin giving us a view into the Richmeister's childhood.
FYI : The third little boy to sharpen his pencil "the one with the warts" is Kieran Culkin Macaulay's brother.

12. Buh-Bye - David Spade stars in this classic clip. All I have to say is : Buh-Bye. You'll also see Helen Hunt working beside Spade.

13. Matt Foley The Motivational Speaker - I knew this was a classic the night it aired. I laughed so hard! You can clearly see David Spade trying not to laugh when he holds a pillow over his face.
This skit stars Chris Farley as a Motivation who lives "in a van down by the river".
FYI - Keep your eye on the coffee table. It wasn't suppose to break.

15. Schweaty Balls - I had to end this list with my all time favorite skit. The skit stars Alec Baldwin and he plays Mr. Pete Schweaty. He is on a radio showed called "Delicious Dish". He is telling them about his famous Christmas treat called Schweaty Balls.
I am amazed at the actors in this skit. They never crack a smile. I remember one of the women saying that it was one of the longest five minuets of her life. She said he father was sitting there in the front row too! Great actors and very well written!

I hope you enjoyed the video clips as much as I did.
