Classic Sleepover and Slumber Party Activities

Place a Modern Spin on These Timeless Ideas

Don't let the term sleepover fool you into thinking that sleeping is the main objective at these events. What's the point of inviting friends over, if you're just going to sleep? Ensure that your next bash includes games and activities that keep your guests up all night. While you have many sleepover gaming options, you can't wrong with choosing these classic ideas.

Truth or Dare
Truth or Dare is a classic game that allows participants to get to know each other better. Game play is simple as each player is asked to choose between telling the truth, and performing a dare. The probing questions asked in Truth or Dare, seek to reveal each player's secrets. Make your dares challenging, without exposing your friends to bodily harm. Consider creating group approved dares to avoid allegations of unfairness during the game. Avoid asking questions that can be summed up with a simple "yes" or "no" answer, as it's more satisfying to watch your friends squirm when confronted with just the right question. Establish a rule that prohibits sharing information learned during your game to outsiders. This will encourage everyone to relax and "loosen their lips". While there is no clear "winner" of this game, everyone involved will enjoy playing. Truth or dare is best played outside the earshot of curious siblings.

Storytelling
This activity is sure to motivate your party guests to stay up all night. Game play is simple and involves only your sleepover guests, a flashlight and your imaginations. Begin game play by turning out the lights and gathering around in a circle on the floor. Each player takes a turn telling a horrifying story to the other players. The subjects of the stories can be anything from bloody cemetery murders to witnessing your enemies without makeup. Use the flashlight for dramatic effect as you spin your original tales. Even if you don't manage to scare each other, you'll still have inside jokes about your stories for years. Consider recording your sessions in true Blair Witch Project style.

Karaoke
Add excited teenage singing to lively music, for seemingly endless fun. Since talent isn't required for karaoke, preparation time is minimal. Play a video game such as Sing Star or Lips in individual or team play matches. Singing and dancing along with your favorite songs and videos can also provide sleepover fun. Consider choreographing dance moves to your favorite songs, or reenacting unforgettable video moments with your friends. Enhance this activity by dressing in funky clothing, or impersonating other people.
