To make this clay pot bunny, you will need a small clay pot, a small styrofoam ball, a white chenille stick (or pipe cleaner), white craft paint, a pink gemstone or pink bead, and other basic craft supplies. To get an idea of what this bunny looks like, see this image. You can use the image as a guide while making the bunny.
Paint the clay pot with white craft paint. You can use any paint, but acrylic paint will dry quickly, so it's a good choice if you are anxious to complete the project. As for the size of the clay pot, you can use any size you want. The bigger the pot, the bigger the bunny. Just be sure to get the appropriate size ball to use for the head.
Bend a piece of chenille stick in half, then in half again to form the ears. Poke a hole in the top of the styrofoam ball and stick the ears in the hole. You can secure with a bit of hot glue.
Glue the head on the base of the clay pot using a hot glue gun. Remember, this is a step that requires adult supervision. Young children should not handle a hot glue gun.
Glue the pink gemstone or bead on the face as a nose. Then, using a fine line black marker or black paint, draw on the eyes, whiskers and mouth. You can add blush to the cheeks using pink chalk or actual blush makeup.
To make the arms, glue a chenille stick to the back of the pot, then bring the arms around to the front. Bend the ends to create hand. As a final touch, you can add a ribbon around the neck.
To turn this little bunny into an Easter bunny, you can glue some little easter eggs around the base of the pot. You can also glue a little egg in one of the bunny's hands. Or, you can make a tiny basket for the bunny to hold. You can get mini eggs at any craft store.
You are not limited to making a white bunny. You can make any color you want. All you need to do is paint the styrofoam ball to match the color you use on the clay pot.
If you want to use this clay pot bunny as a way to hold a little gift, you can tuck a gift inside the pot then close the pot by gluing a circle of card stock or other cardboard (cereal box cardboard is perfect) to seal the opening. Some tiny gift ideas are folded up money (always a favorite!), candy, or jewelry.
