Clay Pot Crafts: Little Pig

This Clay Pot Pig Makes an Awesome Gift for Any Pig Collector!

This craft will teach you how to make a cute little pig out of a clay pot. This pig makes a nice gift to give to someone who likes collecting pigs. It's also a cute gift to put in the kitchen on a windowsill. If you are hosting a party, you could make up a bunch of these pigs to use as place cards that also double as party favors.

To start this craft project, you will need a small clay pot. You will find the clay pots in the garden section of just about any store. Try to get a pot about 2 or 3 inches tall.

You will also need a styrofoam ball for the pigs head. Buy whatever size ball looks good for the head. The head will be placed on the base of the clay pot. It's okay if the head it oversized. It's better to be too big than too small.

To decorate your pig, you will want some pink craft paint, wiggle eyes, a pink button with two holes, and pink craft foam. You might also want a ribbon to tie around the pig's neck and something like a button to decorate the pig's belly.

Paint the clay pot and the styrofoam ball pink. If you use acrylic craft paint, the paint will dry quickly. When the paint is dry, glue the ball to the base of the pot using a hot glue gun.

Glue the wiggle eyes and and the pink button on the ball to make the face, with the pink button as the nose. Then cut two ears out of the pink craft foam. Look at this image to see the shape you should cut for the ears. Then cut two slits in the styrofoam ball so you can insert the ears. Secure the ears with a bit of glue.

Finish your pig by tying a ribbon around his neck, if you like. You can also glue a decorative button to his belly. When you are done, your clay pot pig should look something like this image.

If you want to make a big clay pot pig for your porch or garden, you can buy a large clay pot and use a ball for the head. Just make sure you use waterproof paint so it can withstand the rain. If you want to make a teeny tiny pig, you can use a thimble for the body and a bead for the head. A tiny pig makes a nice miniature for doll house decor.
