Clayton Bailey: Ceramic and Metal Robot Sculpture Art

Rebecca Said
Traditional art bores me to death. In my opinion, the world would be a better place without so many oil paintings collecting dust on the wall. In contrast, the works of artist Clayton Bailey bring art to life. Bailey's art includes creative ceramic pieces and sculpture, latex art pieces, metal robot sculptures, sculpted metal ray guns and more. Clayton Bailey's art makes me want to touch it, drag it home with me and make it a part of my life.

Clayton Bailey started his life-long career as an artist with a focus on making creative ceramic items. Some of his artistic creations include brightly painted ceramic urinals, burping ceramic busts, fanciful gargoyle drinking fountains, funny ceramic dog lamps, skeletal remains of bigfoot, demented pinhead lamps, demonic ceramic dogs, perfect ceramic replicas of insects and more. Clayton Bailey has also created some fun latex masks that are very detailed and include motorcycle gang members, outlaws and monsters. Every piece of Clayton Bailey art is brilliant, but I am fascinated the most by his metal sculpture.

Clayton Bailey has created a huge assortment of life-sized robot sculptures. He creates them out of metal from old appliances, car parts, aluminum cookware and metal he finds at flea markets. Just like humans, each robot is completely unique with traits of its own. Clayton Bailey creates robots with feminine attributes like the robot he named Marilyn Monrobot. He also creates robots that have obviously had too much to drink, such as Drunkbot and Tipsy. As I look at each robot sculpture, it is amazing to see that each robot has such a distinct personality.

Another original metal sculpture from the original mind of Clayton Bailey is the crime-fighting device. It is a 30" tall metal sculpture of the devil made out of copper, steel and brass. The intention is not to glorify the devil in any way, but to become inoculated against evil psychic antibodies. The metal sculpture of the devil is wearing a suit of armor, has 666 on his forehead and inverted crosses. If you look into his belly you will see that bibles are burning. According to Clayton Bailey, looking at this sculpture will cause you to create anti-satanic antibodies to make you immune to the devil. Clayton Bailey is not a stranger to controversy as you may have guessed. His art has created controversy, debate and strong reactions. That is exactly what good art is supposed to do.
