Clean Air Diaper Pail by First Year - Review

Is it Worth Your Money?

A diaper pail with a filter is a genius idea. The concept is so basic I cannot believe that it has never been done before, but does it work.

PROS:

The clean air filter is genius. It takes the stink out of your diaper pail allowing you to extend time between changing the diaper bag. I mean cat boxes have filters so why not diaper pails. This is a brilliant idea and I am glad First Year came up with it. The filter has a fan that runs several times and hour to keep your

The Clean Air Diaper Pail can use just about any bag. You can use trash bags, Target bags, or no bag at all (which would not be a wise move but it's your choice). The bags simply slide into the bag bin and are held in place with a removable blue ring.

CONS:

This is a pricey little machine. It retails for $39.99 at stores such as Target. You will also have to purchase a new filter every three months. These run about $9.99 each. You also have to purchase four D batteries. These batteries also need to be replaced every three months. I have to say that my first set of four D batteries only lasted a month and a half. If you are luckier then I am and can get your batteries to last the full three months that is four sets in one year. The cost of running this machine is a whopping $89.99 in the first year and that doesn't even cover the cost of bags.

I also had a hard time getting the diaper pail to cycle. The fans just didn't run when they were supposed to and when they did run it was a noisy little machine. I honestly just gave up when the batteries died after a month and a half and didn't replace them. The problem is without the filter running the diaper pail begins to smell.

The diapers are supposed to go down the swing arm with ease. They didn't. I often times had to manually push the dirty diaper down into the plastic bag. This is not something you want to be doing with your diaper pail.

Overall I think this machine was a fabulous idea, if it worked. The problem is it doesn't work in the manner it is supposed to. It is costly to operate and I am going to be going back to my old diaper pail which I can afford to replace three times a year if I wanted to for the same price.

This is a great idea -- too bad the product quality didn't meet the concept! Great article, I like the way you show both the pros and cons!

sounds like a great product, though the cost of upkeep seems pretty expensive

I'm a bit out of the loop with babies but appreciate knowing about this for future grandkids (which I hope won't arrive too far in the future)

That is expensive but I would think worth the cost if you can afford it. Great product review.
