Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment: A Review

Acne can be both painful and embarrassing for people. There are hundreds of products on the market, ranging from the inexpensive to the expensive that sport the claim they will clear up acne. One such product is Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment.

Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson contains 2% salicylic acid, used for the treatment of acne. The tube does not indicate any other ingredients. However, it does state that the contents of the tube are flammable and to keep away from open flame. In addition, if Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment is used with other acne medications, excessive dryness or skin irritation may occur. Clean & Clear indicates that if this occurs, only one topical acne medication should be used at one time. As with all medications, Clean & Clear states that this should be kept away from children.

Directions on the tube of Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment state to cleanse thoroughly prior to application of the product, and to cover the entire affected area 1-3 times daily using a thin layer of the product. The directions further state if bothersome dryness or peeling occurs to reduce the number of applications used throughout the day to once or every other day. Clean & Clear recommends Advantage Acne Spot Treatment for daily use.

I purchased Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment at CVS when it was on sale for $5.99. This product can also be found at other drug stores and retail stores such as Target or Kmart for about the same price. The Advantage Acne Spot Treatment is sported in a silver, attractive tube with Clean & Clear's signature purple and white name label on the front. The tube came in a small plastic box that was easy to open so the tube could be removed from its packaging. The acne medication appears to be a milky white color when pushed out of the tube, but immediately goes on clear.

When applied, there is a tingling sensation, which I believe is attributed to some type of alcohol in the product. This is particularly true if you have an open or raw pimple. The tingling sensation is brief and was not painful to me. In fact, it made me feel as if something was working. The Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment went on clear and was not visible upon application to my skin. I really appreciated this aspect of the product. It also makes your skin feel smooth in the area that it was applied to, and immediately reduces redness and the visibility of bumps from pimples.

Clean & Clear claims that its Advantage Acne Spot Treatment has shown to be effective in 100% of people who used it, claiming they had clearer skin in just one day. Obviously dubious of this claim, I decided it did not hurt to try this product to clear up a few unsightly pimples that were not being helped by Clearasil. I was and continue to be impressed and pleased with Clean& Clear's Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. Within hours of first use, a few smaller pimples disappeared. Within a couple of days, a couple other pimples that I had not been able to get rid of with Clearasil have disappeared. I have not had this amount of success with any other acne medications. With use throughout the last couple of weeks, Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment has kept my skin relatively clear and free of unsightly pimples. I used this product daily in order eliminate several pimples, and have not had an issue with dryness or any irritation from use. I have had a great amount of success with this product and will continue to use it when necessary.

Compared to Clearasil, I like Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment for a number of reasons. Instead of either a white or tinted product, Clean & Clear goes on clear and does not appear unsightly either under makeup or alone. Even if you do not apply makeup, you can not tell you are wearing this product, unlike Clearasil. In addition, Clean & Clear works immediately and can be used for on the spot treatment; therefore, you do not have to use it every day if not needed, and can expect to find some type of relief upon application.

I have not felt immediate relief using Clearasil and have also experienced excessive dryness on the application area that turns into peeling skin when using Clearasil. I have not experienced any dryness or skin peeling since beginning to use Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. In fact, my skin appears smoother, more clear, and any blotchiness or redness I had has disappeared. While some pimples seem to take a few days to be eliminated with Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment, others are gone by the end of the day.

I strongly recommend this product for the treatment of acne. While I would not use this to apply to my entire face, I do suggest its use for on the spot treatment that is affordable, invisible, and that actually works!
