Clean a Dirty Kitchen Sponge
Cleaning a Sponge that is Dirty and Full of Germs is Easy and Should Be Done Often
Do not rinse the kitchen sponge under the kitchen faucet, squeeze the water out and use it again. The germs remain in the sponge this way.
Never wipe up a spill on the table then bend down and use the same kitchen sponge to clean the spill from the floor. The sponge might look clean but it is a carrier of harmful germs.
Never reuse a sponge that was used to clean the counter after using the space to clean a chicken. Bacteria will grow faster than you can count to three and get you sick. Best to throw the sponge away.
Things You Need:
a sponge
microwave
dishwasher
1. Never allow food of any kind to remain in the kitchen sponge. Rinse and clean the sponge daily and place it aside to completely dry. A wet sponge attracts bacteria. Killing germs in a dirty sponge is the best way to remain healthy.
2. Give the sponge a weekly cleaning by placing it into the microwave. Never place the sponge in dry or it can spark. Remove and cool before reusing.
3. Use the dishwasher to kill all the germs in a dirty sponge while washing the dishes.
4. Place the sponge in with the spoons and knives if possible or on the top along with the glasses. Put the sponge in the dishwasher for the last wash cycle. Allow the sponge to remain for the rest of the wash and dry cycle.
Tips & Warnings
1. The cleanest and most sanitary method for quick cleanups is by using strong paper towels. Use them and toss them away.
Never use a sponge to wipe a board or plate used for cleaning raw chicken.
2. A kitchen sponge that is filthy and smells really bad should be tossed directly into the garbage and not washed.
3. Do not place a sponge with metal into the microwave.
4. When using the microwave to clean the kitchen sponge, make sure that you do not touch or squeeze the sponge until it is completely cool or you can burn yourself.
