When you clean gutters safety should be the most important thing on your mind. Always use a solid ladder that can reach your gutters properly. Make sure the ladder is set up properly so it is solid and does not move. Safety glasses are an excellent idea to wear and gloves too. Watch out for power lines and any other obstacles that may be a hazard. Don't do any fast movements when you are on a ladder. Keeping your cool and not overreacting are important safety rules.
Always use the right tools when you clean gutters. The proper ladder and a container to put the debris that you pull out of the gutters are needed. A tool that will easily scoop the debris out of the gutters is important too.
Check your downspouts and remove and matter that are in them. You can use a coat hanger to get the debris out of the down spouts and then rinse them with a hose to get out any remaining debris. Downspouts can get clogged. If your downspouts get clogged you may have to remove the downspout to clean it out. If you have downspouts that get clogged regularly you may need to place a straining cover at the top of the downspout to help reduce clogging.
Clean your gutters anytime they need it. Most people clean there gutters in the fall. To protect the value of your home you may want to clean your gutters more often. Especially if you live near a lot of trees you may want to clean your gutters more often. Trees can drop leaves and twigs into gutters anytime of year. A storm can blow debris into your gutters so you may want to check your getters after a storm.
By taking the time to check your gutters from time to time you can help protect the value of your home. Gutters are put on our homes to help protect them from damage. By taking care of your gutters you take care of your home.
