Clean Out Your Nest and Donate to Another

Now you can donate to backyard wildlife when you do your spring cleaning.

DFW Wildlife Coalition in Richardson, TX is working with a local company, Easy Sale, to make donating your household or business items easy.

Just go to DFWwildlife.org, click on the "Clean Out Your Nest" picture, and fill in the information on the EasySale form. They'll contact you about the items you'd like to donate to the coalition and they require that items have a retail value of $50 or greater. Then they'll bring a truck to your home or they have several local stores where you can drop items by.

"They'll do all the work of putting the items on eBay and you can get email updates of the auction progress," stated a press release. "Designate DFW Wildlife Coalition as the charity and we'll receive the proceeds, minus EasySale's administrative fee."

The mission of the coalition is to reduce, through public outreach and education, the incidence of orphaned or euthanized native wildlife in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, according to research.

If you'd also like to donate to wildlife and get your taxes done at the same time this year check out the coalition's H & R Block program on the website.

The Coalition, founded in 2004 as a 501©(3) organization, also has a new hotline number launched earlier this year which is 972-234-9453. Wildcare Texas partners with the agency to help resolve issues.

For callers who have found a juvenile animal, the volunteers provide information on how to reunite the baby with its parents if possible and for those having a problem with wildlife on their property, volunteers provide information on effective, humane solutions.

"As an artist, volunteering for the hotline has given me more insight into the habits and behaviors of the wildlife I love to paint," says artist Mary Anne Whittle. "Each hotline volunteer is trained to educate callers in ways of co-existibg with wildlife thereby unnecessary trapping and euthanasia."

In unrelated wildlife news, if your child is interested in exploring nature this summer, sign them up for River Legacy Living Science Center's classes located at 703 NW Green Oaks Boulevard in Arlington, TX (817-860-6752). The instruction is for students in third to eighth grade with an exciting, hands-on, minds-on opportunity to explore our natural world, according to Fort Worth Child Magazine.

Classes include Hands-On Herpetology, Slime Sleuths, Nature's Nocturnal Wonders, and Amusement Park Science.
