Cleaning with an Air Compressor

Deborah Anderson
When most people think about using an air compressor, the first thought is to air up tires. Yes, airing up tires is the most popular use of air compressors, along with using them to power air tools, you know, those that mechanics use that make all the noise. But, did you know that there are several other uses for air compressors that can actually make life a little easier and cleaner?

When the urge comes to clean outside it generally involves sweeping the dirt and leaves off of or out of areas such as the sidewalk, the driveway or the garage. Now everyone knows that sweeping can get very tiring quick, especially if you have a large space that needs cleaned off. This is where you would put the blow gun attachment on the end of the air hose and simply blow off the dirt and leaves that have accumulated on the driveway and on the sidewalks. The blow gun can also be used to blow the dirt and leaves out of the garage. This sure beats sweeping or using the water hose to clean up with.

Do you need to clean a spark plug? Spark plugs will occasionally need to be cleaned, especially those on lawn mowers or tractors that are constantly exposed to dirt and dust. Again, use the blow gun attachment connected to the air hose and blow air around the area where the spark plug is located. Air filters can also be cleaned with the air compressor once they have been removed from the motor.

Ok, you have been working diligently in the wood shop, using the saws and the planer. Now you notice that there is sawdust everywhere along with wood shavings. Before you reach for that shop broom, use the blow gun attachment once again to blow the sawdust and wood shavings into a nice, neat pile that can be easily picked up with a dust pan or shovel. You can also use the blow gun attachment to blow the sawdust and such off of your clothes, your body and even your hair which will definitely be better than what would happen should you track all that into your house!

Using the blow gun attachment and an air hose may not clean up all the messes that one may encounter, but there are several instances when it is definitely the way to go. Not only is it easier than pushing a broom, it is more fun.
