Cleaning Your House with Common Household Products
Start with vinegar. It cleans more than most people realize!!! Here are some great uses for it:
* Clean windows with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water.
* Cut grease on the stovetop by wiping it down with vinegar.
* Clean food containers, the inside of the refrigerator, jars or the inside of microwaves with vinegar to keep odor free and clean.
* Add vinegar to the rinse aid spot in your dishwasher door to get spotless dishes. This is a much cheaper alternative.
* Vinegar will remove stains from stainless steel when applied with a soft cloth.
* A small amount of vinegar in the rinse water during a laundry cycle will remove any soap left in clothes and works as a natural softener.
* Vinegar and water will help shine faucets. Spray on and buff with a soft cloth.
* Remove mineral deposits from shower heads by putting vinegar in a small plastic bag, covering the shower head, then hold in place with a rubber band. Be sure the head is submerged.
* Remove stains from a toilet by using undiluted vinegar and a good toilet brush.
* Clean drains and garbage disposals by pouring baking soda in them, followed by vinegar.
* Clean walls with vinegar and water.
* Simmer hardened paint brushes in vinegar and rinse in hot water.
Baking soda is another great product for cleaning.
* Put 1/4c baking soda in a dampened pan to help release burnt on food.
* Keep a box in the refrigerator and freezer to absorb odors.
* Use baking soda sprinkled onto a damp sponge to use as a scouring powder. Scrub tubs, sinks, etc.
* Sprinkle on carpets 1/2 hour before vacuuming to remove odors.
* Sprinkle baking soda in the cat's litter box before adding litter to help control odor.
Other cleaning tips with household products include:
* Rub 1/2 lemon on a cutting board to remove odors.
* Use orange peelings in the garbage disposal to freshen it up.
* Use a mesh onion bag as a pot scrubber.
* clean jewelry with a mixture of 1/4 cup ammonia, 1/4 cup dishwashing liquid and 3/4 cup of water. Do not use on gold plated jewelry, costume jewelry or jewelry with opal, pearls or jade.
* Remove rust stains with a paste of lemon juice and salt.
* Clean phones with rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth to disinfect.
* make a laundry spot remover from 1 part rubbing alchohol to 2 parts water.
It's easy to clean most of your home with less expensive, more environmental friendly products. Be proud of your clean, frugally cleaned home!!!

Don't forget old t-shirts and newspaper for cleaning also. They both work well on windows, mirrors, glass tables, etc. Don't use fabric softener when you wash the t-shirts-it will leave streaks. Always cut off all strings and ruffled edges to prevent leaving cotton fuzzies.
