Cleaning Up the Miles of Wires Behind Your Computer

Sunshine Red
If you are like most of us you have a zillion wires behind your computer. It's a maze of wires that all lead to one computer. Trying to find one plug can seem like it takes forever. But there are products out on the market that will help untangle that mess behind your desk. Not only will it make it easier for you to find wires when you need them, it will also look neater. But you don't have to purchase expensive things you can do it yourself and save yourself money.

One of the things that you can do is tie the wired together with a twist tie. These are like the ties that come on loaves of bread. Take several wires that are coming from one place and twist them together so that they are now one wire instead of many wires. This way when look behind the desk they are all lying neatly across the floor. You can use twist ties, or even use plastic clamps that can be adjusted to different sizes.

If you want to hide the wires completely, you can get a piece of small PVC pipe that will lay across the floor. This pipe would have to be big enough in diameter to hold all the wires inside and then cut to the length that you need it to be. Run all the wires through the PVC pipe and then just lay the pipe on the floor. This hides all the wires inside the pipe. You can paint the pipe to match the carpet color.

Another suggestion might be to use bendable hosing you can purchase this at your local hardware store. Cut it the length that you need, then slice open one side of it. Lay your wires inside the hosing, and then put the open side against the floor. This give the top the appearance that it's not cut, while the cut side is out of view, but making it easier for you to add more wires and find the wires that you need.

To make it easier for you to find the end of the wires, what I do is use a piece of tape at the plug in of the wire and I write on it what it is attached to. This way I don't have to follow the wire back to the computer or the printer when I need to unplug something, they are all clearly marked at the end.
These are just some of the ways that you can hide wires and make it safer and look neater behind the desk and computer areas of your home

Excellent article! Writing tags for each wire is a great idea. I spend way too much time tracing wires back to their source.

Great ideas. I can't even tell you how annoying all those wires are to deal with, especially when they somehow get tangled together.
